Capping total # of Medicaid patients
A lot of my colleagues have a cap on the total number of Medicaid patients they accept (150-200 which seems low to me). Do you have a cap on the number of Medicaid patients you accept? Why? What is the number/percent and why? If you don't accept Medicaid pts - why? Sent from my Pixel XL using SDN mobile (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this really a thing?
If they have Medicaid (wisconsin at least?) can they pay cash if there is one of these rejections: 1. prescriber not covered 2. commercial health ins must be billed first, but they state they do not have commercial ins 3. refill too soon: mainly for a vacation supply and they don't want to wait for us to call the insurance since it is Friday night and ins isn't open until Mon am? If we can't bill cash, where is proof I can hand to them so they'll believe me? Someone asked for proof I... Is this really a thing? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Who manages fibromyalgia?
I'm sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but in y'alls practice setting, who manages fibromyalgia? I'm starting to get more and more of these patients with diffuse muscle and joint pain, especially now that I just started seeing medicaid, yay. Typically I will refer to PT and a pain psych consult for cbt (which >50% never go to, and I'm in a small city with no good psych so refer outside), maybe start gabapentin/lyrica/cymbalta. There is no rheum in my town. I'll order the basic... Who manages fibromyalgia? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Methylphenidate for the poor, vs non-poor
are there more to this story than what's in the mail? Medicaid ppl are getting one version of methylphenidate, and we have to save that version for them. whereas the general public gets the other crappy version of methylphenidate that poor ppl don't even want. if they're paying zero, why are they so demanding? and is it legal to save the crappy version for the general public, and the better brand for Medicaid folks "only?" what's the real story behind this discriminatory behavior? pharmacy audit and invoice
How often have you guys seen Medicaid/Medicare or even commericial insurances ask for invoices as part of rx audits? In my very short experience so far I have gone through one Humana audit where they just basically looked at the validity and accuracy of rx's. But then when we try to EXACTLY bill the ndc of the drug we actually dispense it makes me wonder if in audit some of those rare mismatches will be penalized.. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

psychiatrist job
I would like to hear opinions about this job opening: Located in the middle-west, about an hour from a metropolitan area and international airport. Not-for-profit community clinic. Mostly Medicaid patients (few commercial insurance) Outpatient only; no calls; 40 hours 350K: base salary (requires to see 4160 visits/year). OBS: A follow-up is equal to one visit. An intake is equal to 2 visits. The physician would receive 75% of revenue earned for visits in excess of 4160 per year. intake... psychiatrist job (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I need dentist help
So recently I’ve been going to a local dentist that takes Medicaid to get my fillings and root canals done. During one root canal the sx file separated near the root of my tooth. My dentist said I have to visit a specialist/endodontist so they can remove it or file around it. So we went to the refered place which takes Medicaid and got X-rays done but they told us to wait for approval from Medicaid. We called them today and they said I’ve been denied. I don’t understand why when all my other... I NEED DENTIST HELP (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ended associateship and not getting paid collections that haven't come in
What is the normal way to handle payments after you stop working at office that paid you on collections once a month? My boss told me he is only going to pay me on collections till the last day I worked. There is close to 40k in collections that have not come in yet on work that I have done. Also, how do offices usually handle lab fees that you paid on cases that you will not deliver? Background: I graduated a year ago and had been working at a medicaid heavy practice for the last year. Talk to me about Hospitals, Medicaid, and Money
Hey all, I've been thinking about hospitals, medicaid, and money quite a bit lately and have come up on lots of things that I don't know. 1) What is the "cost" to doctors, both hidden and up front, in taking medicaid patients? What about if they work for a hospital? Is there a difference if they are salaried vs in a eat-what-you-kill model? Essentially, I have heard that doctors take "losses" from taking low-SES patients due to medicaid, so I would like to learn more about what the... Would you still want to become a physician if the government passed "Medicare for all?"
Roughly 37% of the country is on some type of government health insurance plan (Medicare/Medicaid/CHIP/VA/etc). Medicaid pays for about 40% of all births. The rest are either uninsured, on Obamacare or have insurance through employment. Do you think it would be with it to go through medical school & residency if we were under a Medicare for all system? Is it illegal to compound commercially available products?
At a pharmacy I worked at they compound omeprazole 2mg/ml by mixing 24 capsules of the 20mg omeprazole capsules + 1 tsp baking soda, 240 mL water. I was told this is the only method Medicaid would pay for this disabled child who gets it twice a month. Another pharmacist then refused to make it saying it's illegal to compound because a commercially available product, First Omeprazole, is available. I'm really not sure. They have been compounding it twice a week for years (well before I ever... Is it illegal to compound commercially available products? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What salary would you expect from this job?
Here are some details about a position that my wife just spoke to a recruiter (internal) about today. She decided to hear more about it but she wants to know what a realistic salary to ask for if she were to go on the interview: Inpatient Adult and C&A: 4 other docs and 71 beds so if full 14 patients Let's say half adult half adolescent No weekends, no weekday call 70% Medicaid (probably mostly rural based on location) Midwest but a decent college town we wouldn't mind living in So SDN...
