Safety/panic buttons in solo private practice?
Starting a small cash-pay private practice, seeing pts both virtually and in-person. I'm renting an office two days a week, located in a fancy high-rise building in a very urban HCOL town. In residency (where I saw mostly medicaid) and in some county clinics/hospitals I've worked out, I had either panic buttons in the office I worked in, or carried around a panic button thing (inpatient). I know I'll be seeing a different clientele in my private practice, but it still makes me a little... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Calling on your wisdom
Hello everyone. I plan to write a letter to the governor's office to ask for review of the Medicaid fee schedule. In brief, I'm hoping my state can have the E&M code rates increased so physicians are more incentivized to work with this population. I'm calling on everyone's wisdom here, if anyone knows of any articles showing that addressing MH needs leads to better outcomes such as lower health care costs, better outcomes in mortality and morbidity, any data to show that this is a worthy... Pharmacists who work for CMS Medicaid / Medicare
Hi, I'm trying to see what it's like working for CMS Medicare / Medicaid for pharmacists. I know the salary is not great (i.e. govt), but what about job satisfaction, expectations/ metrics, etc. The job description involves: policy work, pharmaco-economics, law/regulations. Anyone here currently working or has had experience with CMS? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Only one spinal level for RFA with commercial insurance?
Im in PA, and some pts have UPMC insurance. I have been getting denials for 2 level MBB and RFA by UPMC insurance and have looked into the policy and procedure manual for UPMC commercial insurance (again NOT medicaid), but insurance small business owners actually pay for. Two things obviously jump out 1. No more than 1 level can be ablated in 12 months 2. Cannot ablate at level with spondylolisthesis. HAHAHAHA this is absolutely laughable. Has anyone else ran into anything like this? What... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ICAN act
https://www.clinicaladvisor.com/home/my-practice/nurse-practitioner-career-resources/i-can-act-aprns-medicare-medicaid/ Anyone know about this? The amount of lobbying for full independence is just out of control. Sounds so good on paper when it “improves access to everyone” when in reality, it will just increase morbidity/mortality, and increase the overall cost to the system without any benefit. Getting tired of seeing all this power grab moves justified by virtue signaling. The... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post-pandemic cardiology salary
I know there are threads from the past about salary, but I'm more interested in the salary trend in 2022 coming out of the pandemic. There are all sorts of pressures that affect salary from supply and demand dynamics to decisions made at the federal level in the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) agency. I've heard speculation by colleagues that is both favorable and unfavorable for our future salary. I'm interested in your thoughts and your salaries. I graduated fellowship... School insurance for mental healthcare?
*Please do not quote* I am debating whether to opt for the insurance that my school offers or to get outside insurance (similar cost if I want good coverage). I don’t think I qualify for Medicaid unfortunately because I will have worked this year prior to matriculating. My main concern is that I see a psychiatrist and occasionally a therapist for well-managed mental health issues and I am worried about using school insurance for this. I’ve read a lot of threads on SDN saying you shouldn’t... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advocacy secondary prompt
Hi all, the prompt is "Our physicians pride themselves on giving outstanding care to patients, while looking for better and more equitable ways to do so. As you think about being a future physician and advocate for patients, describe a time when you advocated for someone or something. What did you learn from this situation?" I am a medical assistant and was going to write about the time I spent nearly two hours getting bounced around various Medicaid reps to get a medication covered for a... Medicaid
As a GP are you allowed to only except Medicaid for emergency exams and extractions? For instance if patient on regular schedule cancels and Medicaid patients calls or walks in, this would be a way to fill schedule and provide meaningful service.
