Super low reimbursements!!
Calling all retail pharmacists/managers, esp independents- anybody recently experiencing the low reimbursements on otherwise profitable generics for psych/renal drugs? Towards the beginning of each year, there's always a price hike and state medicaid usually catches up soon. However, medicare is kinda underpaying for a lot of drugs. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Very important question to pharmacists
Hello, I'm a resident, and due to some technicalities with my SSN - my NPI was recently deactivated for a week-week and half ish. It was reactivated after I submitted paperwork yesterday. Sent in a refill and the hospital pharmacy could not fill it as apparently they got a message saying I'm not a registered provider with Medicaid. I called Medicaid, and they were able to pull me up as active. Anyone have experience with how NPI numbers work for any provider? New ones? Reactivation? It's... Opiates, Benzos, and PCPs
I unfortunately joined a practice in Colorado that sees primarily Medicaid (was lied to in every regards about the practice including payer mix on top of many other issues and am leaving in about 2 months). It seems like almost every patient that is referred to me is on opiates, benzos, and often times a stimulant prescribed by the primary cares and they are expecting me to take over prescribing opiates. You would think that in the current landscape of medicine physicians and mid-levels... Opiates, Benzos, and PCPs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is my sister considered Disadvantaged?
My families and her lifestyle is pretty good now. She drives a brand new 2017 Mazda CX-5 SUV she got for her graduation gift from my parents, studied abroad for a semester in France, wears designer clothes, and doesn't receive any financial aid. However, according to AMCAS, she may be able to qualify as disadvantaged given: Her mom was on food stamps and WIC while she was born and she was on medicaid for like the first 5 years of her life (My dad was still a graduate student so our income... How do you deal with a$$hole patients. I encountered a witch looking entitled medicaid patient today who screamed on the phone for 10 mins for not having her methylphenidate ready. Wtf?! Apparently, shes had history of bad behavior way before I started working. She threatened to transfer out. I was like HELL YES! and the she was like, i need to talk to your supervisor! And I was like, b!*ch i am the supervisor. Lol Has anyone refused to fill a prescription or forced a transfer of people... Firing patient (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medicaid patients are soooo entitled....
It’s just annoying they don’t pay a dime for anything and they expect everything to be done flawless for them. Their existences are just a waste of public resources! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Opinions on an outpatient job
Long time lurker in this forum. Looking for opinions on an outpatient job. - Location: Southeast - Setting: Private practice. Outpatient clinic. Brand new office. - Patient population: Private insurance mainly. <10% medicare. No medicaid. - Hours: 8-5pm. No weekends. - Call: you take phone calls on your patients only. Calls run through a voicemail filter. "This is not a population that calls often. We try to make it so providers rarely have to return phone calls." - Appointments: 40-60... Should all Medicaid patients be unable to ever sue a physician for their free care?
Ive been thinking that there should be a law that prevents low income folks from suing healthcare providers for free care offered. The same should be true for prisoners etc. What are peoples thoughts on this? Should someone be able to sue for quality of something they paid literally nothing for? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Virginia Medicaid Troubles
VCU requires students to submit a Certificate of Coverage/ Coverage Verification Letter from our insurance in order to start classes. I have VA Medicaid/ Aetna and have been calling them for 10+ weeks trying to get this letter, and every time I reach someone they give me a new phone number or different office to contact, and no one seems to be able to help me. I'm starting to get worried because orientation is next week and I STILL cannot get this letter! Any VA students, maybe VCU students... Virginia Medicaid Troubles (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Create a hospital system that does not take medicare/medicaid??
Random question, if a hospital or hospital system was created that did not take medicare/medicaid (went cash pay, private insurance, etc) would it be subject to half the bothersome rules, regulations, paperwork, etc? If not taking medicare do you have to follow EMTALA? "Section 1867 of the Social Security Act imposes specific obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals that offer emergency services to provide a medical screening examination (MSE)" Just a random thought as I sit here... How do you help Medicare patients who have reached their donut hole?
More and more patients at our pharmacy are seeing a sudden increase in their copays. I assume they have reached the Medicare Part D donut hole. Their incomes are not low enough to qualify for Medicaid. But all the sudden having to pay $100 each month for a maintenance inhaler really eats into their monthly budgets, especially for the elderly. I have tried running different alternatives, but I am not always able to find more affordable options. Federal law does not allow Medicare...
