What are your thoughts on the proposed 2020 fee schedule?
Copied below from the AAO announcement. A 15% cut to phaco in one year seems brutal. Member AlertThe Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today released its proposed physician fee schedule for 2020. Here are the highlights, based on the Academy's early analysis. Because this is a proposed rule, the Academy will work with CMS over the next few months to ensure a final... What are your thoughts on the proposed 2020 fee schedule? Ect
Does any one know of ECT being performed solely in an Ambulatory Surgery Center? CMS has not placed ECT (CPT code 90870) on the list of approved procedures in an ASC, and they aren't making it a priority even with APA and ISEN-ECT requests to add it. This means medicare/medicaid are unlikely to be performed in an ASC for near future. So have any of you heard of colleagues, or are active yourself, in performing privately insured ECT in an ASC? Further more, please educate me on how... ECT (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dropped health insurance
I have a question about health insurance. I am old enough that I no longer qualify for my parent's health insurance, and I live in a state where I don't qualify for medicaid; Also, my school doesn't provide any health insurance plans, however they require you to be on a plan. I was enrolled through that Market place, but got knocked off due to non-payment (they don't show how much you owe on my health insurance website, and I got a month behind... ****). I'm having a hard time finding... Dropped health insurance (Source: Student Doctor Network)

California bill seeks to impose communist-style price controls over doctors and hospitals
The commies in Cali are pushing a bill that would hand over all control of medical pricing to a 10 member committee. Note that I'm not talking about reimbursement rates for government programs like Medicaid and CaliCare, but that the price you could charge patients as a private doctor would be set by a group of 10 bureaucrats. It's total insanity. To get a grasp of how crazy this is, imagine instead that this legislation applied not to healthcare, but to the food and beverage... Single payer system
So it’s pretty much a forgone conclusion that a single payer is coming. What will this do to reimbursements/our income? Doesn’t Medicare/Medicaid pay about 50% of private payers for Anesthesia services? I believe for surgical subspecialties it’s closer to 75%, so we are the ones who are going to get hit harder than anyone. Also, this is all pure speculation, but when do you believe this crossover is going to take place? I’m thinking 2021 once the New Democratic President takes office... Low MCAT/ high GPA. Do my work activities make me more competitive?
I posted yesterday but want to know if my activities/story make me a little bit more competitive in case of a reapp. I am a first generation college student/first female in my family to pursue medicine/ attending a private college through scholarships I earned for community service work (e.g. coca cola). Waiving medicare a-d copays?
Floated to a store. Patient comes in saying they can't afford their medicare copay. I said we can't waive medicare co-pays. Patient says we waive/pay them all the time for them and that if we don't waive it they'd report me... I said I'd have to verify if we can waive medicare co-pays with another pharmacist since there were no notes in the system that we could... I thought that was only possible for state medicaid insurances to do IOUs or waiving them for inability to pay, never heard of... Waiving medicare a-d copays? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Drug Testing when prescribing controlled substances
This is something I wanted to look more into, so I decided to start here. Is there specific protocol for tox screens, how often, etc. I only ask because I see different things going on in the community. At community mental health clinics that take medicaid - I see people wanting tox screens monthly when prescribing a controlled substance At clinics that take private insurance - I see people getting Klonopin, Adderall, etc without ever being tox'ed, or rarely. I'm not accusing one... Drug Testing when prescribing controlled substances (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this legal?
Someone wanted to donate like 10 bucks and they said we could use it to help others who can't afford their copay (medicaid), can we accept this and put it into a iou jar or something only for those who swear they have 0 money? Or is this illegal? What if someone donated like 100 or something? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Starting Medical School in Fall, But Need Surgery
Hey all, So I am planning on starting medical school in the Fall, however, I have learned that I need an expensive medical procedure, and ideally I would like to get it knocked out before school starts. I am wondering if it's worth applying for a private med loan in order to pay for it. I can wait until I start med school and get on medicaid, but then I would probably wait until Winter break before I did it, and that concerns me. I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar predicament... Starting Medical School in Fall, But Need Surgery (Source: Student Doctor Network)
