Willingness to participate in HIV vaccine trials among men who have sex with men in Chennai and Mumbai, India.
CONCLUSION: The prioritization of trial-related financial and healthcare provisions, including access to an efficacious vaccine posttrial, among MSM in India indicates the importance of trials providing such services, as well as the value of formative research in identifying key concerns among participating communities in resource-limited settings. The significant impact of trial characteristics on WTP suggests that providing trial benefits deemed fair and important, addressing logistical concerns, and supporting educational interventions to mitigate vaccine fears may support recruitment of MSM in India in fairly and ethic...

Could the future of the District's health exchange now be up to a judge?
The future of a state-run health exchange in the District is now up to a judge. Well, at least in part. Friday was the deadline for the city to explain why U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell should dismiss a legal challenge from a life insurance group against D.C.'s planned 1 percent tax on all “health-related’ insurers to fund D.C. Health Link. That group, the American Council of Life Insurers, already filed documents calling the tax unconstitutional, saying the judge should ultimately… (Source: bizjournals.com Health Care:Biotechnology headlines)

The impact of kidney donation on the ability to change or initiate health or life insurance following donation is unknown. Ecologically rational choice and the structure of the environment.
In life, risk is reward and vice versa. Unfortunately, the big rewards people desire are relatively unlikely to occur. This relationship between risk and reward or probabilities and payoffs seems obvious to the financial community and to laypeople alike. Yet theories of decision making have largely ignored it. We conducted an ecological analysis of life’s gambles, ranging from the domains of roulette and life insurance to scientific publications and artificial insemination. Across all domains, payoffs and probabilities proved intimately tied, with payoff magnitudes signaling their probabilities. In some cases, the constr...

Incidence of pyometra in Swedish insured cats
Abstract: Pyometra is a clinically relevant problem in intact female cats and dogs. The etiology is similar in both animal species, with the disease caused by bacterial infection of a progesterone-sensitized uterus. Here, we studied pyometra in cats with the aim to describe the incidence and probability of developing pyometra based on age and breed. The data used were reimbursed claims for veterinary care insurance or life insurance claims or both in cats insured in a Swedish insurance database from 1999 to 2006. The mean incidence rate (IR) for pyometra was about 17 cats per 10,000 cat years at risk (CYAR). Cats with pyom...
