Life Insurance: Experiences when purchasing?
Hello All, First time, long time. I am a trainee but at this stage of my life, it seems to make sense to purchase life insurance (recently married with a little one on the way and I am not getting any younger). I used a WCI recommended agent to purchase disability insurance earlier in my training and the agent was very helpful and straightforward. I feel like I have a disability insurance plan that works well for me. For those who have purchased life insurance, do you recommend going... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Life Insurance. Worth it?

Financial planning for partnership
I just received an unsolicited job offer to become a full equity owner in a practice after 2 years (with no buy in!) I will also have a pension, paid leave, a business account and free life insurance. Sounds like I’ll be set for life. I can’t believe this opportunity fell into my lap. It’s a small group called USACS. I can’t wait to become a partner in a practice. Any advice on how to deal with this windfall TYVM (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do you have life insurance?
Who here has life insurance? If so, what was it like for you going through the underwriting process? What company and amount/length of time did you settle on? I'm looking into 20-30 year term life, 2-3 million. Haven't made up my mind yet though. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Life insurance
There are many characteristics that distinguish a “non-traditional” student from a “traditional” one. One of them is that some of us, non-tears, are married and have kids. We are about to embark on a four year long journey that will put as in a 100K+ debt (often 200K+). Being able to repay this is a perk of our future career. Life, however, writes various scenarios. In case something happens, I don’t want my wife to be stuck with that debt. I’m getting life and disability insurance. Thoughts? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How much money have you spent/received on disability/life insurance?
I'm trying to figure out how much money the insurance companies make off of doctors. Personally, I've never heard of docs ever having to use it over their entire careers. $2000/month is what I hear people pay for same specialty coverage, kicks in at 6 months of disability, no maximums. $2000/month, over 30 years = $720,000. Invested at 6%, it would be worth $2,000,000 after 30 years. At what age do people stop paying their premiums? As a correlary, do people still buy life... waiting on disability and life insurance
Hi all. I recently heard that I should get disability and life insurance prior to graduating from fellowship (as I just started my final year of fellowship, though may consider doing an extra one-year fellowship following this). My concern is that I don't think I will qualify for insurance at this time, as I have extra weight to lose. (My BMI is currently 36, and although I've been exercising 4-5 times weekly for the last 1.5 year, I still need to fix my diet, which I recently started... waiting on disability and life insurance (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why paying the minimum on your debt is a form of life insurance
If you die you no longer owe the debt. Your debt will get put against any assets you have for your estate though so it's important to keep everything as liquid as possible. So if you pay the minimum you are hedging against an early death. It's win-win. If you get to enjoy a long life you have the negative of paying a lot in interest. If you have a short lie you get the positive of never having to repay all the debt (other tax payers do it for you). I have known several pharmacists that have... Life Insurance
Hey everyone, With all the talk of finances and student loans I was thinking that I'd suggest that everyone look into taking out life insurance on themselves to ensure that your family isn't burdened with your student loans should anything happen to you. I know it's not something that we usually think of and I wouldn't have myself if I hadn't read an article about a girl who was killed in a car accident and her parents ended up losing their house because they couldn't afford to cover her... "How will you be paying for med school" Interview Question
So I have an interview coming up where (according to current students) they WILL ask students [esp internationals] how they intend to pay for med school. I'm in a bit of a unique situation, and I need some help phrasing it so that I won't ruin the tone of the interview. Essentially, I'm going to be paying for medical school via a life insurance pay-out when my dad passed away. It happened a long time ago, I'm completely fine bringing it up in the interview, but I don't want the tone to go...
