Variability in endocrine cell identity in patients with chronic pancreatitis undergoing islet autotransplantation
We present results of pre‐ and posttransplant clinical metabolic testing. Varying degrees of islet‐cell dedifferentiation are identified in nondiabetic patients with CP at the time of PIAT, and may need further investigation. (Source: American Journal of Transplantation)

Peritransplant VLA ‐4 blockade inhibits endogenous memory CD8 T cell infiltration into high‐risk cardiac allografts and CTLA‐4Ig resistant rejection
Recipient endogenous memory CD8 T cells expressing reactivity to donor class I MHC infiltrate MHC ‐mismatched cardiac allografts within 24 hours after reperfusion and express effector functions mediating graft injury. The current study tested the efficacy of Very Late Antigen‐4 (VLA‐4) blockade to inhibit endogenous memory CD8 T cell infiltration into cardiac allografts and attenuate earl y posttransplant inflammation. Peritransplant anti‐VLA‐4 mAb given to C57BL6 (H‐2b) recipients of AJ (H ‐2a) heart allografts completely inhibited endogenous memory CD4 and CD8 T cell infiltration with significant decrease ...

Restructuring the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network contract to achieve policy coherence and infrastructure excellence
The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) went up for competitive bid again this year, yet this contract has been held by only 1 entity since its inception. The OPTN's scope has grown steadily, and it now embraces several disparate missions: to operate the computing and coordination infrastructure that maintains waitlists and makes organ offers in priority order, to regulate transplant centers and organ procurement organizations, to follow and protect living donors, and to decide organ allocation policy in concert with the many voices of the transplant community. The contracting process and performance work ...

Liver transplantation for hepatitis C virus (HCV) non ‐viremic recipients with HCV viremic donors
In the context of organ shortage, the opioid epidemic, and effective direct ‐acting antiviral (DAA) therapy for hepatitis C virus (HCV), more HCV‐infected donor organs may be used for liver transplantation. Current data regarding outcomes after donor‐derived HCV in previously non‐viremic liver transplant recipients are limited. Clinical data for adult liver transpla nt recipients with donor‐derived HCV infection from March 2017 to January 2018 at our institution were extracted from the medical record. Ten patients received livers from donors known to be infected with HCV based on positive nucleic acid testing. Se...
