Elevated Carcinoembryonic Antigen as Initial Presenting Sign of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
A 64-year-old gentleman with type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity was evaluated for an elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level to 23 ng/mL. This was obtained during an evaluation after he wished to increase his life insurance policy. He was otherwise asymptomatic and had no specific gastrointestinal (GI)-related complaints. Experience of suffering in patients with hypertension: a qualitative analysis of in-depth interview of patients in a university hospital in Seoul, Republic of Korea
Conclusion
The illness experience of patients with hypertension consists of suffering associated with threatened or damaged self-identity at the individual and social level. Medical professionals should have more awareness of the suffering of these patients to improve the quality of care. An education programme with proper focus on the elements of patients’ suffering may help to alleviate it. (Source: BMJ Open)

New Care Models: How Health and Life Insurers Can Rise to the Challenge of Older and Sicker Societies
Conclusions:Insurers need to go beyond simplistic notions of choice and convenience to promote value to consumers, distributors, and providers. Insurers need to become ‘strategic payers’ to ensure favourable supply-side conditions, share risks, and shift towards value-based payments. A cradle-to-grave joint health-life service proposition should be encouraged.Implications:By moving away from being a passive claims processor to become a ‘strategic payer’, insurers can correct the common misalignments found between financial flows and provider incentives. Many of these purchasing approaches reward value over volume b...

Attitudes of Australian dermatologists on the use of genetic testing: A cross-sectional survey with a focus on melanoma
Conclusion: Australian Dermatologists widely recognise the relevance of genetic testing to future practice, yet few currently order genetic tests. Future educational interventions could focus on how to order appropriate genetic tests and interpret results, as well as potential implications on insurance. (Source: Frontiers in Genetics)

Public View of Public Health Emergencies Based on Artificial Intelligence Data
This study designs an expert system for network public view and optimizes the algorithm for the key problem: SFC deployment. Finally, the system was put into real news and public opinion research on new coronavirus epidemic prevention, and experimental tests were carried out. The experimental results have shown that in the new coronavirus incident, the nuclear leakage incident, and the epidemic prevention policy, the data obtained by the public through the Internet are 50%, 68.06%, and 64.35%, respectively. For the system function in this study, both ICSO and IPSO are far better than the optimization results of CSO and PSO...

Effect of employers' concerns about cancer countermeasures on the implementation of cancer screening and support for balancing cancer treatment and work in small and medium-sized Japanese enterprises
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggested that employers' interest was a powerful predictor of implementing cancer control in SMEs. Educational intervention targeted toward the employer could play a critical role in improving SMEs.PMID:35989472 | DOI:10.1002/1348-9585.12352 (Source: Journal of Occupational Health)

Smallpox
Like a volcano which rumbles and smokes long before it explodes, smallpox gives the world a timely warning. Within the last five years, local epidemics have occurred in Scotland, Germany, France, Spain, Australia, Burmah, the Philippines, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Santo Domingo, Canada, and in several of our own states, in one of which an epidemic exists at present. There is evidence in these outbreaks to indicate that smallpox is becoming more virulent as well as more common. The mortality rate in some instances has been as high as 40 per cent. The number of cases in 1921 in ninety-three American citie...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 2166: Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Health and Life Insurance Denial Due to Cancer among Cancer Survivors
This study examined racial/ethnic differences in health/life insurance denial due to cancer among cancer survivors after the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data were obtained from 2012–2020. The dependent variable asked: “Were you ever denied health insurance or life insurance coverage because of your cancer?” Cancer survivors were included if they were diagnosed with cancer after the Affordable Care Act (N = 14,815). Unadjusted and adjusted logistic regressions for age, sex, income, and employment provided odds ratios of insura...
