Risk Factors for Death in Patients with Severe Acute Pancreatitis in Guizhou Province, China
CONCLUSION: Age, AKI, sepsis, abdominal hemorrhage, and organ failure are risk factors for mortality in SAP patients. SAP patients with high creatinine and prolonged APTT upon admission require doctors to be vigilant. The main cause of death in SAP patients is pancreatitis-related organ failure and secondary infection.PMID:38590392 | PMC:PMC11001474 | DOI:10.1155/2024/8236616 (Source: Gastroenterology Research and Practice)

Learning Curve of a Laparoscopic Pancreaticoduodenectomy Program at a Second Institution
CONCLUSIONS: The learning curve and average operative time of an SI laparoscopic PD program was shorter than the initial learning curve for a single surgeon with comparable outcomes. This suggests that complex minimally invasive surgical programs can be safely transferred to another high-volume institution without significant loss of progress.PMID:38587270 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241246163 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Perioperative venous thromboembolism risk in patients undergoing hysterectomy for fibroids: a U.S. retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Patients with fibroids were at increased odds of having VTE 1 year before hysterectomy. For those with fibroids, elevated uterine weight and laparotomy were associated with greater risk of preoperative and early postoperative VTEs.PMID:38588946 | DOI:10.1016/j.jogc.2024.102456 (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada : JOGC)

The employment of resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta in deployed settings
We describe 17 cases of REBOA within the DODTR from 2007 to 2023, adding to the limited documentation of patients undergoing REBOA in military settings. We identified patterns of injury in line with previous studies of patients undergoing REBOA in military settings. In this small sample of military casualties, we observed a high survival rate.PMID:38581267 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17823 (Source: Transfusion)
