Validation of the emergency surgery score (ESS) in a UK patient population and comparison with NELA scoring: a retrospective multicentre cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: In the UK population, ESS and NELA both predict 30-day mortality and ICU admission with no statistically significant difference but with higher c-statistics for NELA score. Both scores have certain advantages, with ESS being validated for a wider range of outcomes.PMID:38478020 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2023.0105 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)

Secondary bladder stone caused by delayed penetration of the bladder by a pubic fracture: A case report and literature review
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Feb 27;27(4):167. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12455. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTPelvic fractures sometimes lead to injuries of the urinary bladder, which commonly present as gross hematuria, dysuria and lower abdominal pain. As a type of urinary stone, bladder stones are usually secondary to lower urinary tract obstruction, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, urethral stricture, and neurogenic bladder. The present case report examines an unusual case of a delayed pubic fracture penetrating the bladder, which caused a secondary bladder stone. A 53-year-old man was first hospitalized at The Second Hospital o...

Poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the jejunum in a patient with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome: A case report
CONCLUSION: We conclude that patients with long-term, nonspecific abdominal complaints are good candidates for evaluation and investigation without overlooking small bowel malignancy. Peutz-Jeghers syndrome was a potential risk factor in our case.PMID:38471213 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijscr.2024.109519 (Source: Hand Surgery)
