Case report: Isolated axillary lymph node metastasis in high-risk endometrial cancer
CONCLUSION: Axillary lymph node metastasis as the first site of recurrence is rare, even in high-risk endometrial cancer. In addition to systemic chemotherapy, aggressive locoregional treatment can potentially maximize the chance of long-term disease control.PMID:38562421 | PMC:PMC10982341 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2023.1271821 (Source: Cancer Control)

Surgical treatment of Boerhaave syndrome in the past, present and future: updated results of a specialised surgical unit
CONCLUSIONS: Early and aggressive management of spontaneous oesophageal rupture ameliorates the postoperative recovery and prognosis. The surgical results of our unit were found comparable to the previous decade in the population of patients who were treated surgically.PMID:38563067 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2024.0020 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)

Comedones and epidermal cysts on the abdominal skin of a dog occurring after a laparotomy
Can Vet J. 2024 Apr;65(4):371-374.ABSTRACTAn 8-year-old neutered male shih tzu dog underwent laparotomy for cystolithectomy. Ten days later, multiple various-sized cystic nodules were observed on the suture line and surrounding abdominal skin, although the surgical incision had healed well. Microscopically, various-sized cysts lined with thin walls of stratified squamous epithelium in the dermis were dilated and filled with keratin. Adnexal differentiation from the wall was not seen. Thus, the abdominal lesions were diagnosed as comedones and epidermal cysts. Herein, we describe the case of a dog with comedones and epiderm...

Obesity and Associated Outcomes for Blunt vs Penetrating Mechanism in Trauma Laparotomy Patients
Am Surg. 2024 Apr 2:31348241241725. doi: 10.1177/00031348241241725. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObesity in trauma patients is an established risk factor contributing to postoperative complications, but the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and trauma patient outcomes is not well-defined, especially when stratified by mechanism of injury. We surveyed the trauma laparotomy registry at an academic level 1 trauma center over a 3-year period to identify mortality, injury severity score, and hospital length of stay (hLOS) outcome measures across BMI classes, with further stratification by mechanism of injury: blunt vs...
