Pulse Width and Implantable Pulse Generator Longevity in Pallidal Deep Brain Stimulation for Dystonia: A Population-Based Comparative Effectiveness Study
Conclusions: Short PWs were associated with decreased energy consumption and increased IPG longevity. These effects were not dependent on the IPG model or the anatomic location of the electrodes. PWs did not correlate with symptom severities or clinical outcomes. The results suggest that the use of short PWs might be more energy efficient and could therefore be preferred initially when programming patients with GPi DBS for dystonia.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Psychosurgery in the History of Stereotactic Functional Neurosurgery
The paper invites to reappraise the role of psychosurgery for and within the development of functional stereotactic neurosurgery. It highlights the significant and long-lived role of stereotactic neurosurgery in the treatment of severe and chronic mental disorders. Stereotactic neurosurgery developed out of psychosurgery. It was leucotomy for psychiatric disorders and chronic pain that paved the way for stereotactic dorsomedial thalamotomy in these indications and subsequently for stereotactic surgery in epilepsy and movement disorders. Through the 1960s stereotactic psychosurgery continued to progress in silence. Due to t...

Factors Influencing Electrode Position and Bending of the Proximal Lead in Deep Brain Stimulation for Movement Disorders
Conclusion: The association between ICA volume and translocation of the DBS electrode is small in magnitude and not clinically relevant for DBS cases within a normal range of postoperative subdural air volumes. Differences in proximal lead bowing observed between DBS leads may reflect hardware engineering subtleties in the construction of DBS lead models.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Deep Brain Stimulation Lead Implantation Using a Customized Rapidly Manufactured Stereotactic Fixture with Submillimetric Euclidean Accuracy
Conclusion: The MicrotableTM platform is capable of submillimetric accuracy in patients undergoing stereotactic surgery. It has achieved clinical efficacy in our patients without surgical complications and has demonstrated the potential for superior accuracy compared to both traditional stereotactic frames and other common frameless systems.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Deep Brain Stimulation Results in Greater Symptomatic Improvement in Tourette Syndrome than Conservative Measures: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Our data suggest that adult patients with refractory TS undergoing DBS experience greater symptomatic improvement with surprisingly low morbidity than can be obtained with pharmacotherapy or psychotherapy.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

A Simple and Practical Scoring System for Radiosurgical Treatment in Patients with Brain Metastases
Conclusions: The PIBM may be a more accurate prognostic indicator than other published indices. Although this new and practical prognostic index requires further validation in larger cohort studies, we suggest that the PIBM could be useful to predict survival time and inform appropriate management of patients with brain metastases.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Focused Ultrasound Thalamotomy with Dentato-Rubro-Thalamic Tractography in Patients with Spinal Cord Stimulators and Cardiac Pacemakers
We present an 80-year-old male with a spinal cord stimulator (SCS) and an 88-year-old male with a cardiac pacemaker who both underwent MRgFUS for medically refractory ET. Clinical outcomes were measured using the Clinical Rating Scale for Tremor (CRST). DRTT was successfully created and imaging parameter adjustments did not result in any delay in procedural time in either case. In the first case, 7 therapeutic sonications were delivered. The patient improved immediately and durably with a 90% CRST-disability improvement at 6-week follow-up. In our second case, 6 therapeutic sonications were delivered with durable, 75% CRST...

Single-Center Complication Analysis Associated with Surgical Replacement of Implantable Pulse Generators in Deep Brain Stimulation
Conclusions: Infection is the most frequent complication related to IPG replacement.Staphylococcus coagulase negative is the most commonly isolated bacteria causing the infection. According to our results, the subcutaneous thoracic placement represents a greater risk of infection compared to subcutaneous abdominal placement.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)
