Stereotactic Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Extracranial Arteriovenous Malformations
Conclusions: Single-fraction GK radiosurgery appears to be safe and effective for extracranial AVMs. We recommend prescribing doses that are comparable to the ones used for brain AVMs (i.e., 24 Gy). A stereotactic frame is an important tool to ensure higher accuracy in the context of these particular locations. However, in selected cases, a mask could be applied either for single fraction purposes (if in a non-mobile location) or for hypofractionation, in case of larger volumes. These findings should be validated in larger cohorts, inclusively in terms of dose prescription.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic a...

Comparison of Surgical Resection and Stereotactic Radiosurgery in the Initial Treatment of Brain Metastasis
Conclusion: Initial treatment of BM with SRS may offer comparable local and distant intracranial control to SR in patients with single or solitary BM. OS did not significantly differ between the SR and SRS groups in people with single or solitary BM.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

CT-Guided Percutaneous Trigeminal Tractotomy-Nucleotomy for Intractable Craniofacial Pain
Conclusions: The results presented in the current study support the efficacy of the percutaneous CT-guided trigeminal TR-NC procedure in the management of intractable facial pain in selected patients. The use of CT guidance allows direct visualization of the target area, thereby enhancing the safety and success of the procedure.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation in Post-Infarct Dystonia
We report our experience with subthalamic nucleus (STN) DBS in 3 patients with post-infarct dystonia, in whom GPi DBS was not confidently possible due to the presence of striatal infarcts. Two patients had unilateral STN DBS implantation, whereas the third patient had bilateral STN DBS implantation for bilateral dystonic symptoms. Prospectively collected preoperative and postoperative functional assessment data including imaging, medication and neuropsychology evaluations were analyzed with regard to symptom improvement. Median follow-up period was 38.3 months (range 26 –43 months). All patients had clinically valuable i...

Comparison between 1.5- and 3-T Magnetic Resonance Acquisitions for Direct Targeting Stereotactic Procedures for Deep Brain Stimulation: A Phantom Study
Conclusion: Given the millimetric size of stereotactic targets and electrodes, lead implantation for neuromodulation therapy needs to be accurate. We demonstrate that 3-T imaging could not be used for stereotaxy in our MRI-guided direct targeting protocol because of a risk of error induced by distortion.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Intraoperative Stereotactic Frame Registration Using a Three-Dimensional Imaging System with and without Preoperative Computed Tomography for Image Fusion
Conclusions: Caution is advised in fusing intraoperative OAO2 images directly to preoperative MRI without a preoperative CT as the reference exam for image fusion, as the specific fusion algorithm employed may unpredictably affect targeting accuracy.Stereotact Funct Neurosurg (Source: Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery)

Repeat Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Recurrent Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia: A Systematic Review and Our Initial Experience
We present a patient who underwent repeat SRS for recurrent GPN and subsequently maintained over 3 years of complete pain relief. For the first time, we present a systematic review of repeat SRS for recurrent GPN.Summary: Twelve cases of repeat SRS for GPN have previously been reported in the literature (13 studies including ours). Among patients with follow-up, initial pain relief was achieved in 83% (n = 10) of cases a median of 5 weeks after repeat SRS; 2 patients failed to obtain any pain relief. A favorable pain response (BNI I –IIIb) was achieved in 67 and 58% of cases at 6 and 12 months, respectively. All 13 were ...

Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Treatment of Brain Metastases during the COVID-19 Outbreak
Conclusion: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole world is at a critical crossroads about the use of health care resources. During the COVID-19 outbreak, the deferral of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and a work backlog in every medical specialty are the natural consequences of reservation of resources for COVID-19 patients. GKRS improved symptoms and reduced the need for open surgeries, allowing many patients to continue their therapeutic path and sparing beds in ICUs. Neurosurgeons have to take into account the availability of stereotactic radiosurgery to reduce hospital stay, conciliating safety for patients an...
