Use of pedicled flaps after oncologic resections in pediatric patients
AbstractThe aim of this study is to review the indications of pedicled flaps and analyze the results.  A observational retrospective study of under 18-year-old oncology patients who required reconstructive surgery with pedicled flaps between 2011 and 2022 was performed. Demographic and clinical variables, indications, complications, and outcomes were collected. 236 patients were reviewed and 13 me t inclusion criteria, eight girls and five boys (mean age: 10.6 years). Indications were Ewing’s sarcoma (5), osteosarcoma (5), neuroblastoma, desmoid tumor, and neurofibroma. Preoperative PET-CT, MRI and bone scintigraphy w...

miR-375-3p targets YWHAB to attenuate intestine injury in neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis
ConclusionsBreastfeeding elevated miR-375-3p expression in intestines in neonatal mice. MiR-375-3p leads to a decrease in apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells, an increase in cell proliferation, and a concomitant reduction in the expression of inflammatory factors partly through targeting YWHAB. Thirty-eight cases of paraovarian cysts in children and adolescents: a retrospective study
ConclusionsB-ultrasound can help diagnose paraovarian cysts by detecting slight deviation movement between the cyst and the uterus. The presence of adnexa torsion in children and adolescents with paraovarian cysts does not depend on BMI, but rather on the size of cysts. Laparoscopic cyst removal has proven to be an effective surgical approach with favorable outcomes. (Source: Pediatric Surgery International)

A closer look to the timing of orchidopexy in undescended testes and adherence to the AWMF-guideline
ConclusionCompared to recent literature, out data show that a closer look at details enables a more realistic approach. Still, there is no trend towards the recommended age for surgical treatment observable, but the rate of timely operated boys with congenital UDT is significantly higher than stated in literature. Robotic-assisted laparoscopic Malone appendicostomy: a 6-year perspective
We present our experience performing robotic-assisted appendicostomies with a focus on patient selection, perioperative factors, and functional outcomes.MethodsA retrospective review of patients who underwent a robotic-assisted appendicostomy/neoappendicostomy at our institution was performed.ResultsTwelve patients underwent robotic-assisted appendicostomy (n = 8) and neoappendicostomy (n = 4) at a range of 8.8–25.8 years. Five patients had a weight percentile >  50% for their age. Seven patients underwent combined procedures. Median operative time for appendicostomy/neoappendicostomy only was 185.0 min....
