Impact of Low Skeletal Muscle Mass on the Prognosis of Patients with Head and Neck Cancer Treated Nonsurgically
Conclusion: The pretreatment assessment of SMI using bioelectrical impedance analysis is useful for identifying patients with poor prognoses. To improve the treatment outcome in HNC, we need to think of the intervention, such as cancer rehabilitation and nutritional support, during or before treatment, especially for patients with low SMI.ORL (Source: ORL)

Osteosarcoma in the Thyroid Gland
We present a case of primary extraskeletal osteosarcoma of the thyroid, of which there are only 29 previous reported cases. Presentations and treatment options for this type of tumor vary. Through this case report, we discuss the similarities and differences of the patient ’s presentation compared with other documented cases, imaging, the rationale behind treatment, and the current clinical course.ORL (Source: ORL)

An Analysis of Postoperative Complications in Medialization Thyroplasty: NSQIP Data
Conclusion: Medialization thyroplasty is a procedure with a low risk of mortality. However, preexisting patient comorbidities are associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications and an increased length of stay.ORL (Source: ORL)

Metastatic Patterns and Prognosis of Patients with Sinonasal Carcinoma: A Population-Based Study
Conclusion: Tumor grade, T stage, and N stage are risk factors for distant metastasis in sinonasal carcinoma, while an age of less than 65 years and surgery were positive prognostic factors for sinonasal carcinoma patients with distant metastasis.ORL (Source: ORL)

Human Papillomavirus Impact on Temporal Treatment Trends in Oropharyngeal Carcinoma: 2010 –2016
Conclusion: HPV association does not appear to significantly influence treatment modality preference among OPSCC patients. The proportion of OPSCC patients undergoing surgical treatment declined from 2010 to 2016.ORL (Source: ORL)

Recovery from 3 Years of Daily Olfactory Distortions after Short-Term Treatment with GABA-Analogue
This case report describes a healthy 47-year-old man with a 3 years history of daily unpleasant olfactory distortions with severe negative effects on the quality of life. The distorted smoke-like smell occurred every day and was most prominent in the evenings resulting in severe discomfort as the patient felt suffocated by the smoke when falling asleep. The distorted smell had no odour triggers and was classified as phantosmia. Patient history, nasal endoscopy, neurological and otolaryngological examination, depression screening, cognitive testing, and CT scan revealed no obvious aetiology, resulting in the diagnosis of id...

COVID-19-Related Quantitative and Qualitative Olfactory and Gustatory Dysfunction: Long-Term Prevalence and Recovery Rate
Conclusion: Two years after the infection, most patients experience a favourable evolution of COVID-19-related olfactory or gustatory dysfunction. A late recovery was observed in 10% of subjects.ORL (Source: ORL)

Do Symptoms Correlate with the Signs in Odontogenic Sinusitis with Periapical Lesions?
Conclusion: In case of odontogenic sinusitis of endodontic origin, endoscopic signs correlate better than radiological with the self-reported symptoms. In order to better evaluate the severity of the disease and possible need of surgical intervention, both otolaryngologists and dental specialists should focus on extent of inflammatory lesions in the maxillary sinus.ORL (Source: ORL)

Radiological Features of IgG4-Related Disease in the Head, Neck, and Skull Base
Conclusion: Typical radiological features of IgG4-RD included T1 isointensity and T2 hypointensity, homogeneous and gradual enhancement pattern in MRI, easy cranial nerve invasion, dura involvement but the absence of brain edema, and the presence of bone remodeling without destruction, blurred lesion boundaries.ORL (Source: ORL)

Unexpected Branch Malformation of the Facial Nerve during Stapes Surgery: Comparison between Intraoperative and Radiographic Findings
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of facial nerve (FN) bifurcation in patients who undergo stapes surgery, and to ascertain the correlation between the intraoperative and radiographic findings in cases where an unexpected branch malformation for patients undergoing stapes surgery. Patients who underwent stapes surgery were retroactively examined for confirmed FN bifurcation. Among the 887 patients, 10 had a bifurcated FN confirmed during surgery and had a preoperative high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan. The HRCT scans were examined by two radiologists who were blinded to the operational fin...

The Prognostic Capacity of Systemic Inflammation Response Index, Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio, Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio, and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Patients with Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Conclusions: SIRI was a better predictor of OS than LMR, PLR, and NLR in HPSCC patients. SIRI in the highest tertile (#x3e;2.80) and LMR in the lowest tertile (#x3c;5.0) may cause poor 5-year OS.ORL (Source: ORL)
