Case 3: aggressive tumor presenting as chronic sinusitus and odontogenic infection.
A 47-year-old female presented to the Emergency Department (ED) for evaluation of suspected odontogenic sinusitis. She reported a several-month history of sinus congestion with recent onset of intermittent epistaxis from the right nostril, swelling in the right maxilla, and severe pain of the right cheek. The pain radiated to the head and interfered with sleep. The patient incidentally tested positive for COVID-19 during her ED stay.Prior to the ED visit, the patient had dental interventions in the right posterior maxillary area. Clinical Pathologic Conference Case 4: A Multilocular Radiolucency of the Anterior Mandible
A 42-year-old female with a 15 pack-year history of smoking presented for extraction of root tip #20. A well-defined multilocular radiolucency of the anterior mandible of unknown duration was discovered on a panoramic radiograph (Figure 1). Multi-model Deep Learning approach for segmentation of teeth and periapical lesions on Pantomographs
The fields of medicine and dentistry are beginning to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) in diagnostics. This may reduce subjectivity and improve the accuracy of diagnoses and treatment planning. Current evidence on pathosis detection on Pantomographs(PGs) indicates the presence or absence of disease in the entire radiographic image, with little evidence of the relation of periapical pathosis to the causative tooth. Prevalence of likely retro-odontoid pseudotumor in patients receiving dental CBCT examinations
We calculated the prevalence of unsuspected retro-odontoid pseudotumor (ROP) as detected in cone beam computed tomography examination. Additionally, we examined patient age, sex, and presence and severity of cervical osteoarthritis (OA) as potential risk factors for ROP. Multifocal Pigmented Lesions in the Maxilla
A 69-year-old female Hispanic patient with a negative past medical and social history was referred to the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from a community periodontist's office for evaluation of progressively worsening denture sores and expanding soft tissue in the area of the tuberosity. The patient reported wearing her complete maxillary denture for over 5 years without issue; however, in the 6 months leading up to presentation, she noticed increasing discomfort with the prosthetic to the point that she was no longer able to wear it. Carcinomas with clear cell features and EWSR1 rearrangements: a report of 3 cases
Salivary gland and odontogenic neoplasms with extensive clear cell change are rare lesions but have been increasingly characterized over the past decade. Among this heterogeneous group of neoplasms, hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma (HCCC), clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) and clear cell myoepithelial carcinoma (CCMC) share a monophasic clear cell morphology and an EWSR1 gene rearrangement. While HCCC is relatively well characterized, there are a limited number of EWSR1-reaarranged CCMC of salivary glands reported, and its clinicopathologic features in relation to HCCC and non-clear cell myoepithelial carcinoma (MC) ...
