Tarsal Ectropion Repair With Modified Bick Eyelid Tightening and Inverting Sutures
Conclusions: A combination of eyelid tightening using MBLT and inverting sutures is a simple and effective treatment for lower eyelid tarsal ectropion with minimal tissue dissection. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

5-Fluorouracil With Microneedling Modulates Wound Healing in a Murine Model: An Immunohistochemical Analysis of Mechanism and Dose Efficacy
Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that microneedling is an effective topical subepithelial drug delivery system, and further suggest a beneficial dose-dependent immunomodulatory effect of 5-FU on intermediate wound healing when used in combination with microneedling. We recommend a 5-FU dose at the mid-range 50 mg/ml concentration to simultaneously maximize efficacy and minimize complication risk. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Corneal Complications Secondary to Involutional Entropion at Presentation
Conclusions: At presentation, involutional entropion has mild corneal findings with 95.1% of patients demonstrating superficial punctate keratopathy or normal corneal epithelium. Vision loss is a rare complication and was observed in 1% of patients in this study, all with preexisting corneal pathology. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Mapping of Perfusion During Full-Thickness Blepharotomy Using Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging
Purpose: The aim of this study was to monitor how the blood perfusion in human upper eyelids is affected during full-thickness blepharotomy. Methods: Seven eyelids in 5 patients with upper eyelid retraction due to Graves’ disease underwent full-thickness blepharotomy. Perfusion was measured using laser speckle contrast imaging in the eyelid margin and in the conjunctival pedicle. Results: Immediately following the procedure, a nonsignificant reduction in perfusion was observed in the skin of the pretarsal eyelid margin, being 66% of the initial value (p = n.s.). However, a statistically significant decr...

Biplanar-pivoted V-Y Flap for Reconstruction of Medial Canthal Defects
Conclusions: The extended mobility of the biplanar-pivoted V-Y flap provides excellent closure of defects involving the medial canthal region with minimal surgical complications. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Peripheral Neurectomy With Customized Nerve Reconstruction for Periorbital Neuropathic Pain: Initial Experience and Clinical Outcomes
Purpose: To describe a novel, minimally invasive surgical technique to treat severe, intractable periorbital neuropathic pain. Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with severe, treatment-refractory periorbital pain who underwent transection of affected sensory trigeminal branches with nerve repair was performed. Collected data included etiology and duration of neuropathic pain, comorbidities, prior treatment history, surgical technique including site of transected sensory nerves and type of nerve repair, preoperative and postoperative pain scores as well as follow-up duration. Differences between preope...

Quantitative Analysis of Preoperative and Postoperative Photographs Posted on Social Media by Oculoplastic Surgeons
Conclusions: Numerous quantifiable photographic inconsistencies were identified in surgical photographs posted on social media by members of ASOPRS. Adoption of an automated image analysis tool that compares before-and-after surgical photographs could promote standardized oculoplastic surgery photography on social media. Functional Versus Anatomical Nasolacrimal Obstruction: Are There Differences in Epiphora Severity, Symptoms, or Effects on Quality of Life?
Conclusions: FNLDO patients experience a high severity of epiphora, comparable to patients with NLDS and those with complete NLDO. The distinction between FNLDO and NLDS had little consequence on reported symptoms, precipitating factors, visual tasks, and QOL. Discharge may be more specific to NLDO, whereas precipitating cold or wind is more specific to FNLDO. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Risk and Lag-time for Development of Lacrimal Gland Carcinoma Expleomorphic Adenoma: Observations and Conjectural Study
Conclusion: The almost identical measures of dispersion for the presenting ages of PA and CEPA suggests that, once malignant transformation occurs, there might be a relatively constant period before it is evident. CEPAs present about a decade after PAs, this unexpectedly later presentation for the malignancy possibly being explained by a gradual replacement of the PA by the newly arising carcinoma within the preceding benign tumor. Microbial Metagenomics of the Extubated Lacrimal Stents Following Dacryocystorhinostomy: The Lacriome Paper 4
Conclusions: The present study is the first whole metagenome sequencing of the microbes isolated from the extubated lacrimal stents. The stents harbor diverse microbial communities with distinct ecosystem dynamics. Further studies on microbes-host interactions in the early postoperative period would provide valuable insights. Predictive Modeling of New-Onset Postoperative Diplopia Following Orbital Decompression for Thyroid Eye Disease
Conclusions: This study identifies risk factors associated with the development of diplopia following orbital decompression using multivariable data. This study demonstrates that several characteristics including age, clinical activity score, the cross-sectional muscle to orbit ratios, in addition to the type of orbital decompression surgery, are predictive factors for the development of new-onset postoperative diplopia. Presenting Characteristics for Symptomatic, as Compared to Asymptomatic (assumed), Orbital Cavernous Venous Malformations
Aims: To compare the characteristics for symptomatic and asymptomatic orbital cavernous venous malformations (OCVMs). Methods: A retrospective case-note review for patients with OCVMs was performed for demographics and presenting features. Results: Four hundred and fourteen patients (258 female; 62%) presented at a mean age of 49.4 years and all were unilateral. Ninety-two (22%) asymptomatic OCVMs were found a decade later than 322 symptomatic patients (57.8 vs. 47.0 years; p (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Histopathological Evidence of Canalicular Agenesis in Patients With Punctal Agenesis: Punctum Update Study 2
Conclusion: The present series did not find any histologic evidence of canalicular tissues in cases of punctal agenesis. The findings of this study do not support retrograde approaches in cases of punctal agenesis. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)
