Orbital Implants Receiving Food and Drug Administration Premarket Notification
Conclusions: This investigation into premarket approval of orbital implants identifies a shortcoming in the FDA 510(k) approval process. Long-term implant-associated morbidity is difficult to predict during premarket analysis but is further complicated for 510(k) cleared implants since devices approved based on substantial equivalence to recalled devices may not be automatically recalled. Clinicians should be aware of the approval process for the devices they select, and review of the 510(k) process, especially as it applies to substantial equivalence to devices subsequently recalled is warranted. Cemiplimab for Orbital Squamous Cell Carcinoma in 11 Cases
Conclusions: Immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as cemiplimab provide a globe-sparing option for the treatment of orbital squamous cell carcinoma. It is important to consider these agents especially when orbital exenteration is the alternative. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Primary Monocanalicular Stent Intubation for Children With Congenital Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction: Surgical Outcome and Risk Factors
Conclusions: Severe tear duct stenosis, early stent loss, and bilateral surgery were significant risk factors for surgical failure. While the success rate stratified by age at surgery suggested a lower success after the age of 4. Primary monocanalicular stent intubation is an effective and safe treatment for CNLDO sparing a child the need for multiple staged surgeries. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Facial Asymmetry in Children With Unilateral Congenital Ptosis
Purpose: To analyze facial asymmetry in children with unilateral congenital ptosis. Methods: This is a retrospective review of pediatric patients undergoing ptosis repair between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2020. Charts were reviewed to ensure a diagnosis of idiopathic unilateral congenital ptosis. Sex, age, laterality, margin to reflex distance 1, levator function, and surgical intervention were collected. Clear preoperative photos without head turn were included. Using the ImageJ software (nih.gov), landmarks of the periorbital region, midface, and lower face were marked, and measurements between thes...

Periocular Pigmented Basal Cell Carcinomas: Clinicopathologic Features and Mutational Profile
Conclusions: In this large cohort of a relatively uncommon variant of BCC, the clinicopathological features and tumor behavior of PBCC was similar to periocular non-PBCC. The somatic mutation spectrum of PBCC resembles that reported in nonperiocular cutaneous BCC with novel drivers identified. We identified several potential actionable mutations that could be targeted with molecular therapy. (Source: Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

The Arched Rainbow Brow in Thyroid Eye Disease
Conclusions: The Rainbow Brow is a distinct entity in TED and is likely consequent to brow fat pad expansion. Patients with a Rainbow Brow have different eyebrow curvature as compared to both normal age-sex-matched controls and TED patients without a Rainbow Brow. Hyperspectral and Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging for Monitoring the Effect of Epinephrine in Local Anesthetics in Oculoplastic Surgery
Conclusions: The optimal time delay for skin incision in oculoplastic surgery is approximately 2 minutes after the injection of lidocaine with epinephrine. Longer delay does not lead to a further decrease in perfusion. As sO2 was only slightly reduced after injection, the results indicate that the use of epinephrine is safe in the periocular region. Lateral Tarsal Strip Complications With and Without Conjunctiva Stripping
Purpose: The lateral tarsal strip (LTS) procedure is commonly used to correct eyelid malposition. When performing LTS, some surgeons elect to remove conjunctiva from the tarsal strip, while others do not. It has been hypothesized that without conjunctival stripping, the buried conjunctival tissue can cause complications such as inclusion cysts and granulomas. However, there is limited data comparing LTS cases with and without conjunctiva removal. The authors sought to evaluate whether conjunctival stripping had any impact on complication rates with LTS. Methods: LTS operations for ectropion correction were retro...

#Oculoplastics: An Analysis of TikTok’s Top Oculoplastics Content
Conclusion: Physicians play an important role in disseminating evidence-based medicine on social media. While oculoplastics-related TikTok videos are gaining traction, additional research is needed to improve the visibility of oculoplastic-surgeon posted content. Psychogenic Ptosis
Conclusions: Psychogenic ptosis is an often delayed or misdiagnosed condition, resulting in unnecessary referrals and imaging. Psychogenic ptosis should be considered in patients with atypical findings of ptosis including ipsilateral brow depression, orbicularis oculi spasm, squint on upgaze, and variable eyelid measurements. A prior history of minor trauma and female sex were common in this series. Our experience suggests that psychogenic ptosis can often be treated with reassurance, leading to partial or complete resolution. Given the number of patients with comorbid psychiatric conditions, the authors recommend a lo...
