Prevalence and Incidence of Multiple Sclerosis in the City of Biancavilla
Conclusions: Our data confirmed Biancavilla is an area at high risk for MS, ascribable to increased survival, improved ascertainment, or maybe related to a genetic or environmental risk. At the time, any relation with mesothelioma was excluded.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Environmental Factors and the Risk of Brain Tumours in Young People: A Systematic Review
Conclusions: Although many of the studies reviewed suggest associations between the environmental exposures and BT in children and young adults, at present no reliable conclusion can be drawn as most results are based on small number of cases and exposure assessment is limited. Large-scale studies with better exposure assessment are needed to shed light on these possible associations, especially on exposure to heavy metals, tab water consumption, pesticides and parental smoking.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Lifestyle Risk Factors and Findings on Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Older Adult American Indians: The Strong Heart Study
Conclusions: This study found similar associations between smoking and vascular brain injury among American Indians, as seen in other populations. In particular, these findings support the role of smoking as a key correlate for cerebral atrophy.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Prevalence of Driving and Traffic Accidents among People with Seizures: A Systematic Review
Conclusions: There is considerable variation in the prevalence of driving after a diagnosis of epilepsy and in reported motor vehicle accidents. Further efforts are required to better understand the impact of epilepsy, and epilepsy surgery, on driving and road safety, especially where driving continues in violation of restrictions. Policy changes are needed to encourage the introduction of available and affordable alternatives for driving, for example, developing public transport networks, and promoting subsidy schemes to encourage use of public transport, taxis, Uber, and Lyft, among people experiencing seizures.Neuroepid...

Estimating Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Motor Neuron Disease Prevalence in Portugal Using a Pharmaco-Epidemiological Approach and a Bayesian Multiparameter Evidence Synthesis Model
Conclusion: Overall, and even though we must account for the limitations of the indirect methods and models used for prevalence estimation, we probably have a very high ALS/MND prevalence in Portugal. It would be important to create registries, particularly in rare diseases, for better organization and distribution of healthcare services and resources, particularly at the level of ventilatory support.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Antiphospholipid Antibodies: Cognitive and Motor Decline, Neuroimaging and Neuropathology
Conclusions: In older individuals followed longitudinally, aPL do not relate to cognitive or motor decline, inflammation, or cerebrovascular disease on in vivo neuroimaging or postmortem neuropathology.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

A Prospective Study of the Incidence of Myasthenia Gravis in the East Midlands of England
Conclusions: Twenty years after the last comprehensive prospective incidence survey of MG in the east of England, we have demonstrated a rising incidence. The greatest increases seen were in patients over 65 years. Given the rigorous study methods employed, future replicate prospective studies from the same region will establish whether these rising figures are due to biological factors, independent of improved case ascertainment.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

The Association between Inflammatory Markers in the Acute Phase of Stroke and Long-Term Stroke Outcomes: Evidence from a Population-Based Study of Stroke
Conclusion: CRP has a significant direct, yet weak, correlation to the severity of stroke. In addition, the level of CRP at admission may have a clinical implication to identify those at a higher risk of death or recurrence.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Incidence and Mortality of Parkinson ’s Disease in Estonia
Conclusions: Over the last 20 years, the overall incidence of PD in Estonia has remained comparatively stable. The data did not show an excess mortality in PD patients (vs. general population) in the first 5  years of the disease.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

Perceptions of Stroke and Associated Health-Care-Seeking Behavior in Northern Tanzania: A Community-Based Study
Conclusions: Knowledge of stroke symptoms and perception of self-risk are low in northern Tanzania, but most residents would present to a hospital for stroke-like symptoms.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)

A Population-Based Survey of Stroke Knowledge in Argentina: The SIFHON Study
Conclusions: This study represents the largest stroke awareness survey in a Spanish-speaking population. There was good recognition of some basic facts of stroke. However, the population had poor knowledge of prevalence and severity of the disease, transient ischemic attacks, and treatment availability.Neuroepidemiology (Source: Neuroepidemiology)
