A randomized control trial of a combined community health worker and re-entry intervention for people with HIV recently released from jail who use substances
People with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV; PWH) who use substances are disproportionately involved in the criminal justice system. While HIV viral suppression typically improves during incarceration, these gains are frequently lost after release. We evaluated the impact of a combined intervention (formerly incarcerated community health workers [CHW] plus a re-entry organization; CHW+) on postrelease HIV- and substance use –related outcomes. HIV risk perception, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) awareness, and PrEP initiation intention among women who use drugs
Women who use drugs (WWUD) are prime candidates for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) due to their elevated risk of acquiring HIV through biological, behavioral, and contextual factors. However, PrEP uptake among WWUD remains low. The relationship between unhealthy drug use and correlates of PrEP uptake in this vulnerable population is not well defined. The purpose of this study is to characterize the relationships between specific types and routes of drug use and several precursors of PrEP uptake among WWUD. Recovery- and sobriety-support groups in a music community: An ethnographic study of Phish, the Phellowship, and the sensorium of sobriety
This article provides an ethnographic account of members of the Phellowship, a group of sober concert goers who connect and sometimes attend informal meetings at Phish concerts. The work attends to the ways this group is meaningful for people's sobriety and livelihoods. The overall purpose of this article is to provide a rich description of a novel approach to the creation and extension of a culture of recovery and sobriety through music and music communities. The Phenotype of Recovery X: Associations between delay discounting, regulatory flexibility, and remission from substance use disorder
Delay discounting (DD) and self-regulation are important predictors of substance use disorder (SUD) outcomes. Further, regulatory flexibility (RF; i.e., selecting, monitoring, and adapting coping techniques based on contextual demands) is related to psychological resilience. However, studies have yet to examine associations among DD, RF, and remission from SUDs among individuals in recovery. (Source: Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment)

Unhealthy alcohol use and brief intervention rates among high and low complexity veterans seeking primary care services in the Veterans Health Administration
Brief intervention (BI) is recommended for all primary care (PC) patients who screen positive for unhealthy alcohol use; however, patients with multiple chronic health conditions who are at high-risk of hospitalization (i.e., “high complexity” patients) may face disparities in receiving BIs in PC. The current study investigated whether high complexity and low complexity patients in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) differed regarding screening positive for unhealthy alcohol use, alcohol-use severity, and recei pt of BI for those with unhealthy alcohol use. Intervention for marijuana using, court-involved non-incarcerated youth
Justice-involved youth (JIY) are at elevated risk for substance use and for substance use –related harm compared to non-JIY. Marijuana use is of significant concern in this population, as it is tied to reoffending. Motivational enhancement therapy (MET) and electronic interventions show promise in reducing youth substance use; the degree to which these findings extend to JIY requires a dditional research attention. Thus, the purpose of this study was to test the preliminary feasibility and effectiveness of a combined brief electronic parenting intervention plus a brief MET-based electronic intervention for JIY adolescent...
