Randomized controlled trial of zolpidem as a pharmacotherapy for cannabis use disorder
Sleep disturbance is commonly reported among individuals meeting criteria for cannabis use disorder (CUD), and cannabis users frequently report sleep disturbance as a contributor to failed quit attempts. The purpose of this study was to measure sleep in individuals enrolled in treatment for CUD, and to determine whether use of hypnotic medication during treatment increased abstinence rates. Medications for opioid use disorder prescribed at hospital discharge associated with decreased opioid agonist dispensing in patients with opioid use disorder requiring critical care: A retrospective study
Buprenorphine is highly effective for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD), and, in recent years, the rates of patients maintained on buprenorphine requiring critical care have been steadily increasing. Currently, no unified guidance exists for buprenorphine management during critical illness. Likewise, we do not know if patients maintained on buprenorphine for OUD are prescribed medications for OUD (MOUD) following hospital discharge or if buprenorphine management influences mu opioid agonist dispensing. Impact of an intervention to implement provision of opioid use disorder medication among patients with and without co-occurring substance use disorders
Co-occurring substance use disorders (SUDs) are common among people with opioid use disorder (OUD) and known to hinder receipt of medications for OUD (MOUD). How MOUD care implemented outside of SUD specialty settings impacts access for patients with co-occurring SUDs is important to understand. The Veterans Health Administration's (VA) Stepped Care for Opioid Use Disorder Train the Trainer (SCOUTT) initiative was implemented in primary care, mental health, and pain clinics in 18 VA facilities, and was found to increase MOUD receipt. Comparing outcomes of extended-release naltrexone in adolescents and young adults with opioid use disorder
Opioid use among youth is a public health concern in the United States, with>3300 overdose deaths occurring nationally each year. Unfortunately, youth in the United States are still prescribed medication for opioid use disorder (OUD) at a lower rate than their adult counterparts. (Source: Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment)

COVID-19-related flexibility in methadone take-home doses associated with decreased attrition: Report from an opioid treatment program in central Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania saw a dramatic increase in take-home doses of methadone after the COVID-19 pandemic-related relaxation in regulations. We evaluated whether pandemic-initiated relaxation in take-home methadone dose regulations was associated with changes in attrition and urine drug test (UDT) results at one outpatient opioid treatment program (OTP) among adult patients treated with methadone for opioid use disorder (OUD). Personalized feedback intervention for individuals with low distress tolerance who smoke cigarettes: A randomized controlled trial of a digital intervention
Cigarette smoking remains the leading preventable cause of death and disability in the United States and frequently co-occurs with anxiety and depressive symptoms. A novel and integrative, theory-driven approach to address the heterogeneity of mood-related symptoms associated with cigarette use is to focus on transdiagnostic processes, such as distress tolerance, that underpin both mood-related symptoms and smoking behavior. The current study sought to develop and examine the feasibility, acceptability, and initial efficacy of a digitally delivered integrated personalized feedback intervention (PFI) that addresses smoking-...

Mobile health units: Paving the way for a new era of methadone treatment
At 6:00  am each morning, John parks the “methadone van” in a large community center parking lot in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. In the county with the highest opioid overdose fatality rate in the state, the CODAC Behavioral Healthcare Mobile Health Unit brings treatment to a hot spot of the rising opioi d overdose epidemic. In 2007, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) ceased approving these “methadone vans.” Now, after new DEA rules, this clinic-on-wheels starts patients on life-saving treatment, driving directly to the communities most in need. Culturally tailored digital therapeutic for substance use disorders with urban Indigenous people in the United States: A randomized controlled study
Indigenous people experience health disparities, including higher rates of substance use disorders (SUDs). Digital therapeutics are a growing platform for treatment services and have the potential to expand access to culturally responsive interventions for Indigenous people. As one of the first randomized controlled trials for SUDs for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults, the aim of this study was to pilot test the efficacy of a culturally tailored intervention among urban Indigenous adults.
