ConclusionsIf the length of the pre ‐market process correlates with particular drug types, disease targets, or studied outcomes, we may be offering an inadequate incentive in entire areas of medicine where we have a critical need for new treatments. Parental self ‐treatment of their children in Jordan, a qualitative study
ConclusionThe prevalence of self ‐medication in Jordan is alarmingly high. Also, misconceptions and misuse of drugs are considered a serious problem. Parent's familiarity with illnesses and medications determine the patterns of self‐medication. Relationships between physicians ’ characteristics and practice‐setting factors and their attitude towards drug promotion
ConclusionOnly gender, possession or nonpossession of private clinic, occupational commitment and number of MRs the physician see per week can be considered as possible predictors of the relationship between physicians ’ belief and attitude towards drug promotional activities. Evidence ‐based evaluation of intravenous immunoglobulin utilization in paediatric patients in Qatar
ConclusionA significant amount of IVIG was prescribed for approved indications. Strategies to optimize IVIG utilization should be initiated to minimize inappropriate use of IVIG for low ‐evidence indications. (Source: Journal of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research)

Glycemic control through pharmaceutical care: a meta ‐analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionsThe findings suggest that PC interventions are effective (at least in short ‐term follow‐up in hospital setting) in reducing HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pharmacists, working alone or in collaboration with other health professionals have significant impact on improving the health status of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Cost ‐effectiveness of interferon therapy for multiple sclerosis in Peru: impact of treatment adherence
ConclusionThe addition of a PSP had a significant effect on adherence and C ‐E of the intervention. The ICER for IFN + PSP was below 1.5 annual GDP‐pc of payment threshold with an incremental cost near to 3 GDP‐pc. IFN without PSP was dominated by the IFN + PSP. Knowledge regarding medicines management of type 2 diabetes amongst patients attending a Community Health Centre in South Africa
ConclusionThe results indicate that these T2DM patients lacked sufficient knowledge regarding the management of their disease. Healthcare managers should consider instigating programmes to improve patients ’ knowledge about the management of their disease as part of general initiatives within South Africa to improve the management of patients with chronic diseases in the public sector.
