Medicines policy issues for Saudi Arabia: priorities and model
This article describes the need to build a conceptual model and the future directions for medicines policy in the country. The model is needed to narrate and document the set of challenges with regard to workforce, professional d evelopment, human and health services for the pharmaceutical and medicines sector. A conceptual model could aid to build and identify priority medicines policy issues. Policies influencing access to new targeted oncologic drugs in Ecuadorian hospitals: an interrupted time series analysis
ConclusionsTransferring to DTCs the responsibility to select new drugs produced an increase in prescription intensity of targeted oncologic drugs, mainly in the private sector. The second intervention changed this trend. Combination of different levels of decision, meaning a DTC analysis plus a reanalysis by a central body, seems to limit new prescriptions of targeted oncologic drugs. Evaluation and comparison of the utilization of anti ‐epileptic drugs in Indian paediatric patients with global usage data
ConclusionsOlder generation AEDs are still used in majority of patients as mono and dual therapy. Among the newer generation AEDs, there is an increase in the utilization of levetiracetam. Barriers to adverse drug reaction reporting in community practice in the UAE
ConclusionsPlace of graduation, the complexity of the reporting process and lack of reporting skills were identified as the main barriers hindering ADR reporting. To overcome these difficulties and enhance the reporting level, training programmes on P.V. system, spontaneous reporting and professional guidance of pharmacists should be implemented. Clopidogrel safety communication impact on histamine ‐2 receptor antagonist and proton‐pump inhibitor use trends
ConclusionsOverall H2RA and PPI use did not change among adults taking clopidogrel from 2007 through 2014. Prescribers must consider acid reducing agents that will not interact with clopidogrel. Future studies should evaluate the use of PPIs and H2RAs with dual antiplatelet therapy and in patients with a high risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Medication adherence in patients with psychiatric disorders in Tehran
ConclusionNon ‐adherence to treatment is a major problem in patients, and the intervention of pharmacists as the most accessible of medical staff as well as physicians can help to persuade patients to adhere and continually take medicines. Some issues such as the side effects of medications, patients' lack of b elief in the need for treatment and patients' uncertainty about the effectiveness of medicines were the most important factors contributing to their non‐adherent behaviour. Views regarding the safety and efficacy of medicines used in children: comparing originators and local generics in Jordan
ConclusionsThe majority of respondents thought that medicines used in children were effective and safe. It was thought that local generics used in children were as effective as originator medicines. However, almost one ‐third of respondents thought that local generics were not as safe as originator medicines.
