Relationship between pterygomaxillary fissure morphology and maxillary/mandibular position
ConclusionA  significant relationship was observed between PMF morphology and the position of the maxilla or mandible. PMF lengths and widths were larger in males than females. Posteroanterior maxillary and mandibular lengths and posterior facial height are associated with PMF length and width. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Banded versus modified appliances for anchorage during maxillary protraction
ConclusionsThe newly developed modified appliance may be a  promising approach in treating growing Class III patients with maxillary deficiency, which could decrease treatment time, increase treatment efficiency, and reduce anchorage loss. Effects of micro-osteoperforations on intraoral miniscrew anchored maxillary molar distalization
ConclusionsA  1.17-fold increase in the rate of tooth movement in the MOP group compared with the contralateral side was recorded. However the accelerating effect of MOPs was lower than expected. The mean pain level was statistically greater in the MOP group compared to the contralateral side only on the first day of application. Condylar alterations and facial growth in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
ConclusionsCondylar changes in the TMJ, judged on panoramic radiography, in children with JIA, have impact on craniofacial growth. Even minor alterations seem to have an impact. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Quad-helix compression to decompensate molar inclination prior to skeletal expansion
ConclusionsSome patients with maxillary transverse deficiency do not present with PCB, due to an increased curve of Wilson. However, these patients require skeletal expansion similar to that of patients with a  bilateral PCB. The curve of Wilson should be flattened prior to expansion in order to increase the amount of maxillary skeletal expansion. The variability of the curve of Spee
ConclusionThe different manifestations of the COS in this study show the freedom of arrangement of the individual tooth morphology without exhibiting a  correlation to parameters of the dental arch. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Effects of orthodontic force magnitude on cell apoptosis and RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis
ConclusionsEvidence of orthodontic force-induced apoptosis is more robust with stronger forces than with weaker forces. Exuberant RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis that was seen when applying a  low force results from increased RANK and RANKL expression in the post-lag phase. Age effect on orthodontic tooth movement rate and the composition of gingival crevicular fluid
ConclusionThe small number of included studies and large heterogeneity in study design give limited clinical evidence that the older patients are less responsive to orthodontic force in comparison to younger patients. The initial cellular response to orthodontic force is expected to be delayed in older patients. Control intervals during orthodontic treatment should be adjusted to the individual ’s treatment response. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Artificial intelligence in orthodontics
ConclusionsWe created an AI algorithm able to analyze unknown cephalometric X ‑rays at almost the same quality level as experienced human examiners (current gold standard). This study is one of the first to successfully enable implementation of AI into dentistry, in particular orthodontics, satisfying medical requirements. Effects of contact compressive force on bracket bond strength and adhesive thickness
ConclusionsThe high-viscosity adhesive Transbond XT exhibited higher SBSs than the low-viscosity Beauty Ortho Bond paste. For the adhesive Transbond XT, lower contact compressive forces produced greater adhesive thicknesses and higher SBSs. For the Beauty Ortho Bond paste, no significant changes in the adhesive thickness or SBS values were observed for contact compressive forces greater than 0.5  N.
