Influence of functional and esthetic expectations on orthodontic pain
ConclusionEsthetic and functional expectations of OTO were significantly associated with OES pain intensity. Thus, knowledge about esthetic and functional expectations may help to predict patient ’s pain response to orthodontic treatment. Ramal inclination in the frontal plane after bimaxillary orthognathic surgery in skeletal class  III facial asymmetry
ConclusionThe FRI changes after bimaxillary orthognathic surgery in skeletal class  III asymmetry reduced the FRI difference between the deviated and nondeviated side and remained stable for at least 6 months after surgery. No clinically significant correlation was found between measured skeletal changes during surgery and FRI changes. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Effect of using different component combinations for orthodontic bracket bonding with self-etch primers
ConclusionsBased on the present findings bond strength of self-etch primers was equal to etch-and-rinse primers for bracket bonding. Combining different self-etch bonding systems might alter the clinical performance. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Does puberty affect oxidative stress levels and antioxidant activity of saliva in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances?
ConclusionsComparing the pubertal and postpubertal groups, orthodontic force application with fixed orthodontic appliances did not change the final levels (on day  7) of antioxidant status or oxidative stress markers, except for MPO in saliva. Effect of orthodontic extraction of mandibular premolars on third molar angulation after treatment with fixed appliances
ConclusionOrthodontic treatment involving premolars extractions might be associated with a  small acceleration in root development, but not with the angulation, of lower third molars. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Color changes of nanocomposites used for clear aligner attachments: an in vitro study
ConclusionColor change of the packable nanocomposite was more pronounced than that of the flowable nanocomposite for both attachment designs. Therefore, clear aligner attachments created using flowable nanocomposite can be recommended, especially in the anterior region where esthetics are important for the patient. Preciseness of artificial intelligence for lateral cephalometric measurements
ConclusionsConsidering the used AI software, AI followed by manual tuning of the landmarks ’ position might be an accurate method in lateral cephalometric analysis. AI alone is still not fully reliable at locating the different landmarks on the lateral cephalometric radiographs. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Effect of patients ’ attitude and perception of oral hygiene on white spot lesion development and plaque accumulation during orthodontic treatment
ConclusionOur survey hints at a  possible relationship between WSL formation and patients’ sense of control over OH routine in males. Future studies should further explore the effect of sex on the attitude toward and perception of OH in orthodontic patients. This survey highlights the multifactorial nature of WSL development in orthodontic patients and the complexity of predicting patient compliance. Influence of the force magnitude of fixed functional appliances for class  II subdivision 1 treatment—a cephalometric study
ConclusionNo significant statistical differences were observed between the patient group treated with the FFA with standard activation (SUS) and those treated with an additional spring (TSUS) regarding the cephalometric parameters investigated. Both variants were equally effective in treating class  II division 1 malocclusions. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Precision of slot widths and torque transmission of in-office 3D printed brackets
ConclusionsThe novel, in-office manufactured polymer bracket showed comparable results to established bracket materials regarding slot precision and torque transmission. Given its high individualization possibilities as well as enabling an entire in-house supply chain, the novel polymer brackets bear high potential of future usage for orthodontic appliances.
