Investigating time to first birth among women of reproductive age in Bangladesh: a survival analysis of nationwide cross-sectional survey data
CONCLUSION: It is necessary to increase the age of mothers at first birth which may help to reduce the prevalence of child marriage in Bangladesh. The study findings will be helpful to the policymakers in identifying the gap and designing the programmes targeting the early timing of first birth to reduce child mortality as well as poor maternal outcomes which will be beneficial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goal-3 in Bangladesh.PMID:38167135 | PMC:PMC10759529 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00492-1 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)

Mother-child dyads of overnutrition and undernutrition in sub-Saharan Africa
CONCLUSION: Combination of child, maternal, and contextual factors could explain mother-child dyads of overnutrition and undernutrition in sub-Saharan Africa. Addressing this situation requires multidimensional policies and interventions that empower women through education and economic engagement. The observed sub-regional differences in policies and commitments related to addressing malnutrition suggest the need for comprehensive and coordinated efforts to implement and strengthen multisectoral comprehensive nutrition plans across sub-Saharan Africa. Sharing best practices and lessons learned can help improve the effecti...

Inequality in the distribution of resources in the health sector before and after the Health Transformation Plan in Qazvin, Iran
CONCLUSION: Based on the analysis of the Gini and HHI, it is evident that the distribution of GPs has not undergone significant changes following the implementation of the HTP. The Gini coefficient, which ranges from 0.4 to 0.6, indicates a high to complete level of inequality in the distribution of specialists and subspecialists. Moreover, the HHI exceeds 1000, reflecting a concentration of resources in specific areas. As a result, the HTP has not yet achieved its goal of ensuring a fair distribution of human resources. To address this issue, it is recommended to redesign distribution policies, including the allocation of...

Discrimination against HIV/AIDS patients and associated factors among women in East African countries: using the most recent DHS data (2015-2022)
CONCLUSION: This study concluded that women in East Africa still had a very discriminatory attitude toward HIV/AIDS patients. The good news for East Africa is that prevalence has decreased when compared to earlier findings. Improving women's empowerment, maternal health services, and health facilities' accessibility are crucial.PMID:38167573 | PMC:PMC10759423 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00491-2 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)

Gut microbiota shifts favorably with delivery of handwashing with soap and water treatment intervention in a prospective cohort (CHoBI7 trial)
CONCLUSION: The observed exclusion of pathogenic Proteobacteria and enhancement of beneficial Firmicutes in the gut of children delivered with chlorinated water as part of WASH intervention reflect a great promise of the CHoBI7 program in preventing cholera and improving child health.PMID:38129922 | PMC:PMC10740293 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00477-0 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)
