Challenges and health outcomes of the exposure to soybean dust in the harbor neighborhood of Karachi, Pakistan: a wake-up call
CONCLUSION: A multi-sectoral systematic approach is also required to address these incidents comprehensively including the trained and equipped pre-hospital system, integrated emergency medical response, and community-wide emergency response system.PMID:38037137 | PMC:PMC10688105 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00473-4 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)

Bayesian multilevel modelling of the association between socio-economic status and stunting among under-five-year children in Tanzania
CONCLUSION: The MPI and WAMI under PCA were the best measures of SES that predict stunting. Because MPI was the best predictor of stunting for two surveys (TDHS 2004/5 and 2015/16), studies dealing with stunting should use MPI as a proxy measure of SES. Use of BE-MGLMM in modelling stunting is encouraged. Strengthened availability of items forming MPI is inevitable for child growth potentials. Further studies should investigate the determinants of stunting using Bayesian spatial models to take into account spatial heterogeneity.PMID:38031170 | PMC:PMC10685585 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00474-3 (Source: Journal of Health, Pop...

Bibliometric analysis of residual cardiovascular risk: trends and frontiers
CONCLUSION: In recent times, global attention toward residual cardiovascular risk has significantly increased. Current research is focused on comprehensive lipid-lowering, residual inflammation risk, and dual-pathway inhibition strategies. Future efforts should emphasize strengthening international communication and cooperation to promote the comprehensive evaluation and management of residual cardiovascular risk.PMID:38017531 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00478-z (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)

Association of dietary behaviour and depression among adolescents in Malaysia: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: One out of every four Malaysian adolescents was identified to experience depression. Depression was linked to several factors, such as being female, belonging to higher grade levels, identifying as Malays, Other Bumiputeras, or belonging to other ethnicities, and participating in the consumption of fast food, carbonated soft drinks, and fruits. To address these observations, it is crucial to formulate effective public health programmes that prioritize adolescent mental health and encourage the adoption of healthy eating habits.PMID:38017532 | PMC:PMC10685555 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00480-5 (Source: Journal of...

Living in a large family and low daily water consumption substantially expose for human scabies in rural Ethiopia: a matched analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Being unmarried, illiteracy, large family, long travel time for water collection, low daily water consumption, open dumping of solid wastes, and inaccessibility of scabies-specific interventions are predictors of scabies. This information is instrumental for redesigning improved scabies-specific interventions that consider educational status, marital status, family size, water collection time, daily water consumption, solid waste disposal, and equity and optimization in delivering existing interventions in rural Ethiopia.PMID:38017554 | PMC:PMC10685524 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00471-6 (Source: Journal of Healt...

Vegetarian diets and risk of all-cause mortality in a population-based prospective study in the United States
This study evaluated prospective associations between vegetarian diets and all-cause mortality among 117,673 participants from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial cohort study. Vegetarian diet status was self-identified on the questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained from follow-up questionnaires and the National Death Index database. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to estimate the risk of all-cause mortality in hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). By diet group, there were 116,894 omnivores (whose diet does not exclude animal products), 329 lacto- and/or ovo-vegeta...

Association between interleg systolic blood pressure difference and apparent peripheral neuropathy in US adults with diabetes: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: In US adults with diabetes, an increase in the ILSBPD (≥ 15 mmHg) was associated with a higher risk of apparent peripheral neuropathy.PMID:38001545 | PMC:PMC10675956 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00475-2 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)
