First imported case of Candida auris infection in Milan, Italy: genomic characterisation
ConclusionImportation ofC. auris from abroad has been previously described. We report the first case ofC. auris imported into Italy from Greece, according to phylogenetic analysis. This case reinforces the need for monitoring critically ill hospitalised patients also for fungi and addresses the need for the standardisation of susceptibility testing and strategies for diagnosis and therapy. Canonical notch activation in patients with scrub typhus: association with organ dysfunction and poor outcome
ConclusionOur findings suggest that scrub typhus patients are characterized by enhanced canonical Notch activation. Elevated plasma levels of DLL1 were associated with organ dysfunction and poor outcomes in these patients. (Source: Infection)

Natural and hybrid immunity after SARS-CoV-2 infection in children and adolescents
ConclusionSpike antibodies are the most reliable markers to monitor an immune reaction against SARS-CoV-2. High antibody titers of spike antibodies and nAB correlated with cellular immunity, a phenomenon found only in adolescents with hybrid immunity. Hybrid immunity is associated with markedly higher antibody titers and a higher probability of a cellular immune response than a natural immunity. (Source: Infection)

Incidence and risk factors for HIV-tuberculosis coinfection in the Cologne –Bonn region: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionOverall, we observed a decline in the incidence density rate (IDR) of HIV/TB coinfections between 2006 and 2017. Patients originating from regions with high incidence bear a higher risk of falling ill with active TB. For PLWH born in Germany, the observed risk of active TB appears to be lower compared to other groups within the cohort. These findings should be considered when developing TB containment and screening strategies for PLWH in low-incidence countries. (Source: Infection)

COVID-19 outbreak among employees of a German hospital: risk factor analysis based on a follow-up questionnaire and seroprevalence
ConclusionThis study highlights the role of direct patient care and internal staff interactions in the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the hospital setting. It suggests that non-traditional transmission routes like carpooling require consideration in pandemic preparedness. (Source: Infection)

Haemophilus influenzae endocarditis: a case report and literature review
ConclusionNative tricuspid valve IE is an uncommon entity, especially in the absence of IV drug use. Haemophilus influenzae is an extremely rare cause of IE, with a literature review showing merely 15 reported cases. This article cites the 16th case of HI-IE published in the literature. Tularemia on the rise in Switzerland? A one health approach is needed!
AbstractIn the last 10  years, an increase in tularemia cases has been observed in both humans and animals in Switzerland. In these, infection withFrancisella tularensis, the causative agent of the zoonotic disease tularemia, can occur  through arthropod vectors or contact to infected animals or exposure to contaminated environmental sources. Currently, we are only able to postulate potential aetiologies: (i) behavioral changes of humans with more exposure to endemic habitats of infected arthropod vectors; (ii) an increased rate of tularemia infected ticks; (iii) increasing number and geographical regions of t...
