Thoracic manifestations of tularaemia: a case series
ConclusionsPulmonary tularaemia may occur after tick bites and without extrathoracic manifestations. In patients who present with thoracic lymphadenopathy and pulmonary consolidations and who are exposed to increased outdoor activities, tularaemia should be included in the diagnostic pathway. Histologically, the presence of neutrophil –granulocyte infiltrations might help to distinguish tularaemia from other granulomatous infections, e.g. tuberculosis. The combination of quinolone–rifampicin rather than i.v. gentamicin reduced length of hospital stay in two patients. (Source: Infection)

Recurrent, ICD-associated L. monocytogenes bacteraemia with multiple septic pulmonary embolisms over a 2-year period
ConclusionThe confirmation of relapses through cgMLST analysis highlights the persistence ofListeria monocytogenes and the potential for recurrence even after apparent resolution of symptoms in patients with foreign material. It emphasises the necessity for a comprehensive assessment to identify and mitigate the risk of relapses, thereby ensuring optimal management and outcomes. (Source: Infection)

Malaria vaccine efficacy, safety, and community perception in Africa: a scoping review of recent empirical studies
ConclusionMalaria vaccines protect against malaria infection in varying degrees, with severe side effects rarely occurring. Further research is required to improve vaccine efficacy and community involvement is needed to ensure successful widespread use in African communities. (Source: Infection)

Deficits in blood culture collection in the emergency department if sepsis is suspected: results of a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionData on everyday clinical practice in the pre-analytical phase of microbiological diagnostics shows considerable deficits and indicates the need for more implementation of best practice. The variations identified in BC sampling between EDs should be further investigated. (Source: Infection)

Incidence and predictors of complications in Gram-negative bloodstream infection
ConclusionsComplications of GN-BSI are relatively common and may be predicted based on initial clinical response to antimicrobial therapy, follow-up blood culture results, and other host and microbiological factors. (Source: Infection)

Dietary habits, traveling and the living situation potentially influence the susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection: results from healthcare workers participating in the RisCoin Study
ConclusionThe newly discovered associations between the living situation, traveling as well as dietary habits and altered COVID-19 risk can potentially help refine containment measures and, furthermore, contribute to new mechanistic insights that may aid the protection of risk groups and vulnerable individuals.
