Helicobacter pylori and oral –gut microbiome: clinical implications
AbstractMore than half of the world ’s population are colonized with H. pylori; however, the prevalence varies geographically with the highest incidence in Africa.H. pylori is probably a commensal organism that has been associated with the development of gastritis, ulcers, and gastric cancer.H. pylori alone is most probably not enough for the development of gastric carcinoma, but evidence for its association with the disease is high and has, therefore, been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a Class 1 carcinogen. Bacteroidetes and Fusobacteria positively coexisted duringH. pylori infection a...

Limited protection of pneumococcal vaccines against emergent Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 14/ST876 strains
ConclusionWith the lifting of the one-child policy, it will be crucial for families with multiple children to get PCV vaccinations in China. Due to the highly variantcps locus and distinctive variation patterns in capsule shedding and binding proteins genes, the prevalent S14/ST876 strains have shown poor response to current vaccines. It is necessary to continue monitoring the molecular epidemiology of this vaccine escape clone. (Source: Infection)

Antibiotic use in pediatric acute care hospitals: an analysis of antibiotic consumption data from Germany, 2013 –2020
ConclusionSignificant heterogeneity in ACD and prescription of different antibiotic classes as well as high prescription rates for cephalosporins and an increased use of reserve antibiotics indicate improvable antibiotic prescribing quality. AMS programs should urgently prioritize these issues to reduce antimicrobial resistance. (Source: Infection)

Viral lumbosacral radiculitis (Elsberg syndrome) in Denmark
ConclusionsUrinary retention resolved within weeks in most patients with viral lumbosacral radiculitis, but moderate disabilities according to the Glasgow Outcome Scale were common at the end of follow-up. (Source: Infection)

Trends, clinical characteristics, antimicrobial susceptibility patterns, and outcomes of Campylobacter bacteraemia: a multicentre retrospective study
ConclusionThe notably increasing incidence of Campylobacter bacteraemia and antibiotic resistance patterns can challenge the treatment, necessitating collective efforts of national surveillance and networks by many departments. (Source: Infection)

IgG antibody levels against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in mother –child dyads after COVID-19 vaccination
ConclusionsCOVID-19 mRNA vaccines induce high anti-SARS-CoV-2 S titers in pregnant women, which can inhibit the binding of ACE2 to protein S and are efficiently transferred to the fetus. However, there was a rapid decrease in antibody levels at 2 to 3  months post-partum, particularly in infants. (Source: Infection)

Coinfections and antimicrobial treatment in a cohort of falciparum malaria in a non-endemic country: a 10-year experience
ConclusionAlthough bacterial coinfections were rare in patients with malaria at our centre, the risk does not seem negligible. These data point rather towards individual risk assessment in respective patients than to general empiric antibiotic use. (Source: Infection)

Rate and predictors of blood culture positivity after antibiotic administration: a prospective single-center study
ConclusionBlood culture positivity is reduced by antimicrobial therapy but remains high after a single dose of antibiotics. If cultures are not obtained prior to antibiotic administration, they should be obtained as soon as possible afterwards. (Source: Infection)
