Giant Submucosal Fibromatosis of the Base of Tongue Presenting as Paediatric Obstuctive Sleep Apnoea: A Rare Case Report
AbstractA nodular lesion of the tongue encompasses a range of conditions, from reactive to malignant. It can be challenging to diagnose when a solitary and firm submucosal mass appears in the oral cavity. Following an essential investigation protocol is necessary for reaching a definitive diagnosis. Leiomyomas are benign tumors that infrequently occur in the oral cavity and typically affect individuals between their forties and fifties. This case report presents a rare and unique case of a giant submucosal fibromatosis located at the base of the tongue in a 3-year-old child presenting with features of pediatric OSA. Immuno...

An Unusual Case Report of a Foreign Body (Fish Bone) in the Trachea
AbstractTracheobronchial foreign body aspiration is a rare yet potentially life-threatening occurrence in adults, presenting with symptoms ranging from acute asphyxiation to coughing, breathlessness, or choking. These symptoms can be inconsistent and mimic chronic lung conditions like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Chest X-rays and computed tomography scans are valuable for diagnosing and locating the foreign body. However, bronchoscopy is the primary method for diagnosis and management. This case study describes a unique incident involving a fish bone lodged in the mid-trachea, emphasizing the critical i...

Closing the Gap: Exploring the Role of Cap Grafts in Tracheocutaneous Fistula Closure
AbstractExploring the Role of Cap Grafts in tracheocutaneous fistula Closure. A tracheocutaneous fistula (TCF) is an abnormal connection that forms between the trachea (windpipe) and the skin of the neck. If spontaneous closure does not occur, fibrosis of the surrounding tissue may result in a persistent TCF and in some cases, iatrogenic laryngotracheal stenosis at the level of tracheostoma, the so-called A-frame deformity. In all 5 patients, Conchal cartilage was harvested. The new de-epithelialized stoma is measured, and the previously harvested graft is cut to match the defect. Passing through the centre of the tracheal...

Dynamic Spatial Auditory Processing in the Elderly
ConclusionsAging is accompanied by different structural and functional changes in the auditory central nervous system, which leads to a decrease in speech perception in challenging listening environments, as well as a decrease in sound localization abilities, due to the reduction of temporal and spectral information. This problem affects the determination of the source of sound and the spatial cognition of the elderly and leads to a disturbance in the awareness of the auditory environment. Therefore, auditory rehabilitation programs can cause the improvement of spatial auditory processing performance and improve speech per...

A Comparison of Tranexamic Acid in Nasal Versus Sinus Surgeries: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
We present the first meta-analysis that has reviewed both nasal and sinus surgery collectively and compares the two. Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library and WoS were searched until April 2023. Outcomes of interest include Boezart Scoring, clotting time, postoperative complications and surgical field quality. 27 Studies were assessed, of which 25 studies were evaluated quantitatively. Of the 27 studies, 15 studies involved Sinus surgery while 12 involved Nasal surgery. The use of tranexamic acid was notably beneficial in the evaluation of blood loss, reduction of operating time, surgical field quality and surgeon satisfaction....

Idiopathic Lympho-Plasma Cellular Mucositis; A Diagnostic Predicament
AbstractThe term “idiopathic lymphoplasmacellular mucositis” (ILPM) refers to a set of conditions marked by extensive lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltrates in the submucosa which can involve the oral cavity, upper respiratory tract and the genital epithelium. There is no recognized cause of ILPM, and the diagno sis is mostly done on an exclusion basis. Herein, we report a 32-year-old man presented with an erosive ulcerated lesion on the hard palate and review the literature regarding the possible differential diagnosis including squamous cell carcinoma. We also reviewed the previously reported cases of ILP M with pala...
