Varying Course of External Branch of Superior Laryngeal Nerve (EBSLN) and Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve (RLN) in Thyroidectomy —An Observational Study
The objectives of the study were: (1) To identify the course of the RLN and EBSLN of both sides, during Thyroidectomy. (2) To discern various anatomical landmarks, the relations of the t wo nerves with them and anatomical variations, if any. In this Prospective observational study, fifty selected goitre patients underwent various types of thyroidectomies based on sonological and cytological criteria. The course and anatomical variations of EBSLN and RLN were photo-documented and res ults were analysed. Most of the EBSLN were found as Cernea type 1 type (25 out of 50), followed by Cernea type 2a (comprising 36%). The least...

The Role of Trans Oral Robotic Surgery in the Carcinoma of Unknown Primary: A New Evidence in the Horizon?
AbstractThe detection of the primary site in Carcinoma of Unknown Primary (CUP) is a challenging task which can significantly alter the course of management and also prognosis. Various modalities have been assessed with varying sensitivity and specificity. Imaging and cytological diagnosis have formed a key part of the diagnostic algorithm of CUP. Trans Oral Robotic Surgery offers the advantage of being both diagnostic as well as therapeutic with promising sensitivity and specificity and can form an integral part in the management of CUP. A prospective study was carried out at a tertiary care centre over a period of one ye...

Surgical Treatment of Concha Bullosa: A Comparison of the Short-term Results of Crushing and Lateral Laminectomy with and without Mucosal Preservation
AbstractPneumatized middle turbinate (Concha bullosa) is one of the commonest intranasal anatomical variants. Surgery is the effective method to control symptomatic concha bullosa, however, still no clear definition for the best surgical technique. The aim of our study to assess and compare the short-term outcomes of crushing and lateral laminectomy with and without mucosal preservation in the surgical treatment of symptomatic concha bullosa. Thirty patients who underwent concha bullosa surgery (a total of 42 conchae surgeries) were included in this prospective randomized study. Patients were allocated consecutively and eq...

Our Experience in Subadventitial Dissection vs. Intracapsular Dissection Technique of Carotid Body Tumors Surgery
This study provides a single-center experience involving intracapsular dissection for Shamblin II carotid body tumors (CBTs) and compares the outcomes with the classic technique of subadventitial resection. Based on the preliminary results, it seems that the enucleation technique facilitates the dissection of carotid body tumors, offering protection to cranial nerves and the internal/external/common carotid artery by utilizing the capsule as a barrier. The classic subadventitial resection approach and the enucleation technique have comparable postoperative complications. However, it is crucial to continue following the pat...

Minimizing the Recurrence Rate in Covid Associated Mucormycosis: Our Experience in 500 Patients
AbstractMucormycosis is an aggressive, fatal fungal infection. The fungal organisms are ubiquitous and easily affect immunocompromised patients. The main aim of this article is to emphasize over the knowledge of different diagnostic methods (diagnostic nasal endoscopy, ct/ contrast mri pns  + orbit + brain, Wet KOH mount), the importance of practising an aggressive surgical resection, medical treatments (liposomal amphotericin B, amphotericin gel, tablet posaconazole, nasal douching, retrorbital amphotericin injection), suction cleaning and regular follow up of the patient aft er surgical management. This can great...

Trans-nasal Humidified Rapid Insufflation Ventilatory Exchange (THRIVE) and its Utility in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery: A Literature Review
AbstractHigh-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) therapy is extensively used in critical care units for spontaneously breathing patients. Trans-nasal humidified rapid insufflation ventilatory exchange (THRIVE) is a method of apnoeic oxygenation with continuous nasal delivery of warmed, humidified oxygen at high-flow rates up to 70L/min. THRIVE extends the apnoeic window before desaturation occurs so that tubeless anaesthesia is possible. The advent of THRIVE has had a monumental impact on anaesthetic practice, with a diverse range of clinical applications and it has been incorporated into difficult airway guidelines. THRIVE has many ...

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy in Recurrent Head and Neck Cancer: Where Do We Stand?
In conclusion, SBRT shows promise as a valuable therapeutic tool for patients with inoperable recurrent HNC, offering acceptable safety. However, further research and well-designed trials are needed to optimize its us e and identify the most suitable patient cohorts. Establishing comprehensive working guidelines and a nationwide prospective database will be crucial in advancing this treatment approach. Bilateral Sudden Irreversible Hearing Loss in a Case of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia: A Case Report
AbstractChronic myeloid leukemia is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow and results in an overproduction of immature WBCs. The genetic mutation that causes CML is the BCR-ABL fusion gene. Adolescents are rarely affected. The case study aims to discuss a rare case of chronic myeloid leukemia causing bilateral hearing impairment, tinnitus, and vertigo. A 30-year-old female presented to the hospital in November, 2021, with sudden hearing impairment and other symptoms, leading to a CML diagnosis. Blood tests revealed hyperleukocytosis with marked neutrophilia, mild basophilia, and eosinophilia, and a BCR-ABL qu...
