Unveiling the Rarity: A Case Report on Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Thyroid Gland
AbstractSolitary Fibrous Tumor (SFT) rarely manifests within the thyroid gland, an organ predominantly associated with epithelial carcinomas. This case report explores the clinical narrative of a 70-year-old patient presenting with a sizable SFT localized in the left lobe of the thyroid, posing diagnostic challenges uncommon in thyroid nodules. The report delves into the clinical history, radiological findings, pathological assessments, and therapeutic interventions, contributing to the limited literature on thyroidal SFTs.  The patient’s ultrasound revealed a substantial thyroid mass causing tracheal and vascular displ...

Type I frontal recess in 50 (25%), type II in 82 (41%), type III in 24 (12%) and type IV in 18 (9%) patients. The association of age (P = 0.141) and gender (P = 0.345) with frontal sinusitis was not significant. The statistical association between type of frontal recess and frontal sinusitis was statistically not significant. The association between age and the type of frontal recess was found to be statistically significant by Fischer’s exact test withP v...

Effectiveness of Adenoidectomy as a Standalone Procedure in Improving the Quality of Life of Children with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
AbstractAdenoid hypertrophy (AH) and its sequel like nasal obstruction, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), recurrent rhinitis and middle ear disorders are common diseases of pediatric age group, forming the major bulk of pediatric outpatient visits. The recommended approach to treating OSA in children is through adenotonsillectomy. Adenoidectomy is the surgical procedure of removal of hypertrophied adenoid tissues, which is the most common surgery performed by Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgeons. Given that adenoidectomy alone might lead to reduced instances of adverse outcomes, decreased risk of complications, and lower exp...

Evaluation of Nasal Conditions on Sleep: Integrating Wearable Tech in Surgical Outcomes
Conclusion: Nasal septum deviation and turbinate hypertrophy had a significant impact on sleep patterns, overall well-being, and respiratory function. Surgical interventions provided significant relief, and wearable sleep tracker integration provides deeper insights into sleep disorders. The study highlights the importance of early intervention and the benefit of modern technologies in clinical evaluations. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

Temporal Bone Fractures after Trauma: A Prospective Analysis of Presentation, Management, and Outcomes
AbstractTo comprehensively understand the manifestation, treatments, and resultant consequences of temporal bone fractures, given their substantial impact on auditory and balance systems and the overall quality of life. A prospective study, adhering to the STROBE guidelines, spanning five years (2011 –2015) was conducted on 83 male patients aged between 20 and 54 years, diagnosed with temporal bone fractures primarily caused by road traffic accidents. Evaluations comprised symptom presentation, otologic manifestations, radiological classifications, and management strategies, including both con servative and surgical inte...

Bilateral Choanal Atresia in a 42-year-old Patient: A Rare Condition Case Report
AbstractChoanal atresia is an uncommon condition with an incidence of 1:5,000 –8,000 live births, affecting females more frequently and often associated with other malformations. This case report presents a 42-year-old female patient who was born with bilateral choanal atresia and intervened surgically for the first time at birth. However, the formed orifice was reobstructe d a few months afterward, necessitating reoperation in adulthood. The purpose of this case report is to describe bilateral choanal atresia in detail, including its clinical presentation, epidemiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, and therapeutic approach....

Criteria for Determining Hearing Disability: A Narrative Review of Global Perspective
This report reviews current literature on audiometric thresholds used globally to determine hearing disability, highlighting challenging cases worldwide. Databases PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched for articles on hearing disability criteria published from 2010-present in English. Overall, developed countries employ a pure-tone average (PTA) of ≥ 40 dB as disability criteria, while developing countries use ≥ 41 dB PTA. The World Health Organization uses ≥ 41 dB disabling hearing loss in better ear. Studies show widespread use of a single frequency threshold in some countries can exclude mi...

External Auditory Canal Squamous Papilloma Presenting with Otitis Externa and Severe Bony Erosion
We present a case of a 68-year-old lady with an insidious progressive history of otorrhea, otalgia, and reduced hearing for 3  months. She was treated for malignant otitis externa and was treated with systemic antibiotic but showed subtherapeutic response to treatment. She underwent examination under anaesthesia and biopsy with tumour debulking of the right ear via posterior auricular approach and histopathological examin ation revealed squamous papilloma of the external auditory canal. She recovered well after surgery and was asymptomatic during follow-up. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

The Role of Supraclavicular Flap in Reconstruction Following Resection in Buccal Mucosa Carcinoma
AbstractBuccal mucosa is one of the common subsite for oral carcinoma. Following excision of the buccal mucosa tumor mass various pedicled and free flaps have been used to reconstruct the oral cavity defect. In this age of free flaps various locoregional pedicled flaps have been underrated and overlooked and supraclavicular flap is one of them. This flap meets the functional and cosmetic acceptance of the buccal mucosa defect reconstruction with minimal morbidity to the donor site. This paper presents author ’s experience of using supraclavicular flap in 10 patients of carcinoma buccal mucosa. In all cases surgical defec...

COVID-19 Infection During Pregnancy and Hearing Loss in Infants: A Clinical Study
ConclusionThe prevalence of hearing loss in our study on babies born to mothers with COVID-19 infection during pregnancy is 0.005. Although these primary results from our study does not indicate any immediate effect of SARS-COV-2 maternal infection on neonatal hearing. More children need to be tested and followed up over an extended period of time to detect any possible delayed auditory effects. Those patients who were identified to have hearing loss in our study will have to be on long term follow-up as we see long terms effects on cognition, memory, heart health, etc. in COVID survivors.Level of evidenceLevel 1.
