Comparison of the Effect of the Jaw Thrust Maneuver, Chin Lift, Head Rotation, and Tongue Protrusion on the Obstruction of Different Levels of the Upper Airway During the Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy: A Cross-Sectional Study
AbstractTo determine the impact of four maneuvers (Jaw Thrust, Chin Lift, Head Rotation, and Tongue Protrusion) on the degree of airway collapse at different airway levels during drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) compared with natural supine position (regular) DISE and evaluate the association of each maneuver with polysomnographic findings compared with regular DISE without any maneuver. One hundred and nine OSA patients aged 20 to 55 who were candidates for sleep surgery were included. The association of the Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) with the degree of obstruction during four maneuvers of DISE and regular DISE was eva...

Outcomes of Cochlear Implant Recipient With ANSD: Intra and Post Operative Findings, Progress in Audition and Speech Skills
Conclusion Experience with cochlear implantation for child diagnosed with ANSD that effectively received and benefited from CI. A detailed and careful evaluations, audiological follow-ups and tailored rehabilitation plans, can be considered as a beneficial management approach for CI, especially who diagnosed with ANSD. The regular use of cochlear implant in this diagnosis can lead to a clear increase in speech comprehension, development and overall progress in quality of life. Success or lack of success with a CI appears to be somewhat dependent on the specific site of lesion (pre- or post-synaptic). C urrently there are ...

Retrospective Evaluation of Otosclerosis and Stapes Surgery: Changing Trends Over 50 Years
AbstractTo assess the post-operative cases of stapes surgery. To determine correction in hearing loss post surgery and changing trends over 50 years. In a retrospective observational study, 234 cases otosclerosis who underwent surgical management between 1973 and 2023 were assessed. A total of 234 cases were seen. Male:female ratio was 0.8:1. Most patients were in the age group 21 –30. Left >  right ear involvement was seen. Stapedotomy >  stapedectomy was the surgical procedure done. More than 50% patients had around 30db improvement in audiometric evaluation post surgery. Most common complications were ve...

Saliva Based Diagnostic Prediction of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma using FTIR Spectroscopy
In this study, a total of 60 patients divided into 2 groups were recruited. Group A included 30 histo-pathologically confirmed OSCC patients and Group B included 30 healthy controls. A standardized procedure was followed to collect saliva samples. FTIR spectroscopy was done for all the saliva samples collected from both Group A and B. An IR Prestige-21 (Shimadzu Corp, Japan) spectrometer was used to record IR spectra in the 40 –4000 cm−1 range SVM classifier was applied in the classification of disease state from normal subjects using FTIR data. The peaks were identified at wave no 1180  cm−1, 1230  cm−1, 1340 Â...

Surgical Dilemma in Approaching Parapharyngeal Space Pleomorphic adenoma- Transcervical or Transoral Route – A Case Report
AbstractA case of pleomorphic adenoma of deep lobe of parotid in parapharyngeal space presented as intra oral swelling. FNAC showed features of pleomorphic adenoma. Surgery done through transcervical route. HPE of excised mass confirmed pleomorphic adenoma. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

Parapharyngeal Nodal Metastasis in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Catching Early
Conclusion- Metastasis to parapharyngeal space in Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid is rare and often missed on routine evaluation. Contrast-enhanced CT/MRI can be added as a primary investigation in challenging cases of suspicious malignancy of the thyroid. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

Condylar Osteochondroma: A Rare Case Report
We report a case of 40-year-old male patient complaining of reduced mouth opening since last 10 years. Clinical examination revealed gross facial asymmetry, hard swelling over right TMJ, jaw deviation towards left side, restricted mouth opening of 3 mm and deranged occl usion. An irregular radiopaque mass was seen over the right condylar region in OPG. A large, hyperdense mass that obliterated the sigmoid notch and extended medially to the right condyle was visible on CT scans. Using a pre-auricular Alkayat-Bramley technique, the mass was surgically removed. Occlus al corrections and jaw physiotherapy were then administer...

Intraoperative Facial Nerve Involvement in Parotid Tumours – A Retrospective Analysis in a Tertiary Care Centre
ConclusionTumour size, malignancy, hard fixed mass, masseteric space infiltration, recurrence, and age  >  45yrs have been statistically significant predictive factors for intraoperative facial nerve involvement leading to FP. The study also revealed that FP occurred more commonly when there was concurrent involvement of both superficial and deep lobes but was not statistically significant. Effect of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease on Middle Ear Function: A Case –Control Study
ConclusionLaryngopharyngeal reflux disease can have silent manifestations in the ear in the form of altered middle ear function. This can lead to a wide spectrum of dysfunctions in the form of serous otitis media, retraction pockets and squamosal variant of chronic otitis media, which has its own set of complications. Hence, early management of LPRD can reduce possibility of middle ear disease. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

Effect of Maternal Diabetes Mellitus on Neonatal Hearing
This study attempts to find the incidence of neonatal hearing loss among diabetic mothers.MethodologyThis was a case control study with 86 neonates of diabetic mothers as cases and neonates of non diabetic mothers(n  = 86) as controls. Antenatal diabetic history and sugar values of mothers were documented. Hearing status of the neonates were tested using DPOAE test and ABR test. DPOAE test was done on 3rd day and those who did not get a positive response underwent 2nd DPOAE and also ABR test if 2nd DPOAE wa s negative.ResultsAll neonates underwent DPOAE test and few were lost on follow up. AbstractTo study the incidence and management of postoperative hypocalcemia in participants undergoing near-total (NTT) and total thyroidectomy (TT) at a tertiary health care center. This is an observational prospective study. Patients posted for NTT and TT in our institute and meeting the inclusion criteria were included. A total of 45 participants were enrolled. The serum calcium was measured on postoperative day 2, at the time of discharge and on 3  months follow-up. Bilateral Karapandzic Flap, a Saviour for Subtotal Lower Lip Reconstruction
AbstractLip plays an essential role in facial esthetic, food intake, and speech. Lip defect due to trauma or surgical excision needs proper reconstruction to preserve their function. Carcinoma lip is one of the common malignant lesions in the head and neck, which needs wide local excision with proper margin with neck clearance. When the size is more than two-thirds, it becomes a challenge to reconstruct and preserve its functionality and aesthetic issues. Bilateral karapandzic flap plays an important role in this case scenario. We have two cases of subtotal lower lip defect following squamous cell carcinoma of the lower li...
