Evaluation of factors associated with survival in allogeneic stem cell-transplanted patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU)
CONCLUSION: This study found several parameters (APACHE-II-Score, SAPS-II-Score, SOFA-Score, MV and vasopressor support) associated with increased mortality after allo-HSCT and admission to the ICU. The outcome of allo-HSCT patients admitted to the ICU is not as poor as previously reported. Even older patients under long-term ventilation may benefit from intensive care therapy.PMID:37737158 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2023.2256198 (Source: Hematology)

Survival analysis in patients with follicular dendritic cell sarcoma: a population-based study
In this study, the median age at diagnosis was 50 years and 91 (48.7%) patients were male. The most common primary location was the abdomen/pelvis (82, 43.9%). The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year overall survival (OS) were 88.7%, 69.0%, and 59.8%, respectively. The 5-year conditional overall survival increased from 65.7% at baseline to 83.8% in 5-year survivors. The 3-year FDCS-specific death rate was 26.7% and the rate of death from other reasons was 3.7%. In addition, the annual death hazard was the highest in the first four years after diagnosis and increased again in the 7th and 8th years. Age > 60 years at diagnosis, me...

The significance of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation on immunoglobulin reconstitution and prognosis in elderly patients with multiple myeloma
CONCLUSION: The Ig reconstitution within 12 months of ASCT could predict the overall outcomes of patients with MM aged ≥ 60 years.PMID:37732626 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2023.2255800 (Source: Hematology)

Clinical and cytogenetic characteristics of primary and secondary plasma cell leukemia under the new IMWG definition criteria: a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: Our study revealed clinical and cytogenetic features of pPCL and sPCL patients according to the new diagnostic criteria. The findings suggested a generally better prognosis for pPCL than sPCL and the likelihood of t(11;14) translocation acting as a favorable prognostic factor in pPCL. It is important to note that our study had a limited sample size, which may lead to bias. We hope well-designed studies can be conducted to provide more results.PMID:37732631 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2023.2254556 (Source: Hematology)

The age-dependent changes in risk weights of the prognostic factors for multiple myeloma
CONCLUSIONS: ISS may lose prognostic value in patients ≥71 years old. Older patients had an inferior outcome and needed more effective and less toxic treatment.Plain Language SummaryMultiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer commonly seen in older people. To treat this disease, genetic abnormality, the poor physical status of patients and the abundance of tumor cells are the main difficulties. We often draw these conclusions from clinical trials. However, clinical trials always enrolled relatively younger patients, so the presence and significance of these factors may vary from clinical trials to the real world. We condu...

Relationships of platelet glycoprotein specific antibody with therapeutic efficacy of short-term high-dose dexamethasone and bleeding score in the newly diagnosed adult patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia
Conclusion: Collectively, the newly diagnosed ITP adults with GP-specific antibody have a poor response to short-term HD-DXM, especially in minority (Uyghur) patients with GP-specific antibody in China.PMID:37702365 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2023.2255801 (Source: Hematology)
