Prescriptions of antidepressants and anxiolytics in France 2012-2022 and changes with the COVID-19 pandemic: interrupted time series analysis
Conclusions This study showed a protracted trend increase in the consumption of antidepressants since pandemic onset, while increases in anxiolytic consumption were temporary. Clinical implications We provide evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic may have had long-lasting consequences on the prevalence and treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, requiring further actions by researchers and policy-makers to address this potential public mental health crisis. Understanding effect size: an international online survey among psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians from other medical specialities, dentists and other health professionals
Conclusions and clinical implications For dichotomous outcomes, presenting the effects in terms of the CER and EER could lead to the most correct interpretation. Relative measures including the risk ratio must be supplemented with absolute measures such as the CER and EER. Effects on continuous outcomes were better understood through standardised mean differences than mean differences. These can also be supplemented by dichotomised CER and EER. Internet-based behavioural activation therapy versus online psychoeducation for self-reported suicidal ideation in individuals with depression in Indonesia: a secondary analysis of an RCT
Conclusions In individuals with depression in Indonesia, the GAF-ID intervention was not superior in reducing self-reported SI compared with PE. Also, the association between treatment condition and SI at week 24 was not mediated via BA at week 10. Clinical implications This study supports the need for further research on the efficacy of psychological treatments targeting SI in the Southeast Asia context. (Source: Evidence-Based Mental Health)

Predictors of increased affective symptoms and suicidal ideation during the COVID-19 pandemic: results from a large-scale study of 14 271 Thai adults
Background Increasing data suggest emergent affective symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objectives To study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on affective symptoms and suicidal ideation in Thai adults. Methods The Collaborative Outcomes Study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times uses non-probability sampling (chain referring and voluntary response sampling) and stratified probability sampling to identify risk factors of mental health problems and potential treatment targets to improve mental health outcomes during pandemics. Findings Analysing 14 271 adult survey participants across all four waves of ...

All-cause and suicide mortalities among adolescents and young adults who contacted specialised gender identity services in Finland in 1996-2019: a register study
Conclusions Clinical gender dysphoria does not appear to be predictive of all-cause nor suicide mortality when psychiatric treatment history is accounted for. Clinical implications It is of utmost importance to identify and appropriately treat mental disorders in adolescents experiencing gender dysphoria to prevent suicide. Are web-based stress management interventions effective as an indirect treatment for depression? An individual participant data meta-analysis of six randomised trials
Conclusions Our results indicate that web-based stress management can serve as an indirect treatment, yielding effects comparable with direct interventions for depression. Further research is needed to determine if such formats can indeed increase the utilisation of evidence-based treatment, and to corroborate the favourable effects for human guidance. Influence of study characteristics, methodological rigour and publication bias on efficacy of pharmacotherapy in obsessive-compulsive disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised, placebo-controlled trials
Conclusions Our findings reveal superiority of clomipramine over SSRIs, even after adjusting for risk of bias. Effect sizes may be attenuated when considering publication bias and methodological rigour, emphasising the importance of robust studies to guide clinical utility of OCD pharmacotherapy. Estimating the joint association of adverse childhood experiences and asthma with subsequent depressive symptoms: a marginal structural modelling approach
Conclusions These findings suggest that asthma amplifies the risk of depressive symptoms associated with ACEs. Clinical implications Prevention and treatment of asthma, along with establishing preventive environments and services against ACEs, are effective in mitigating the potential burden of ACEs on mental health. Framework for understanding movement and physical activity in patients diagnosed with psychosis
Conclusions and clinical implications The 5 P (Purpose, Predictions, Present state, Provision and Process Physical Activity Framework) for understanding movement and physical activity for people diagnosed with psychosis has the potential to inform future research and guide interventions. Single session of interpretation bias modification helped to improve fear of COVID-19 and COVID-19-related post-traumatic stress symptoms
Conclusions IMP could improve negative interpretations and fear related to COVID-19 and might help to ameliorate PTSS. Clinical implications The role of PTSS-related emotion should be considered when exploring the effectiveness of IMP. IMP is a flexible approach that can be tailored to the specific characteristics of the traumatic event, which makes it suitable for a broader range of traumatised individuals. Waiting-list interventions for children and young people using child and adolescent mental health services: a systematic review
Conclusions There is limited research exploring waiting list interventions, however, the findings from small-scale studies are promising. Further research using robust study designs and real-world implementation studies are warranted. (Source: Evidence-Based Mental Health)

Quality of melatonin use in children and adolescents: findings from a UK clinical audit
Conclusions Melatonin was predominantly prescribed for evidence-based clinical indications, but the clinical review and monitoring of this treatment fell short of best practice. Clinical implications With limited methodical review of melatonin use in their patients, clinicians will fail to garner reliable information on its risks and benefits for individual patients. The lack of such practice-based evidence may increase the risk of melatonin being inappropriately targeted or continued despite being ineffective or no longer indicated. Beneficial and harmful effects of tricyclic antidepressants for adults with major depressive disorder: a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis
Conclusions The long-term effects of tricyclic antidepressants and the effects on quality of life are unknown. Short-term results suggest that tricyclic antidepressants may reduce depressive symptoms while also increasing the risks of serious adverse events, but these results were based on low and very low certainty evidence. A chatbot to improve adherence to internet-based cognitive-behavioural therapy among workers with subthreshold depression: a randomised controlled trial
Conclusions Combining iCBT with a chatbot increased participants’ iCBT completion rate. Clinical implications Encouraging messages from the chatbot could improve participation in an iCBT programme.
