Association between ultra-processed food and snacking behavior in Brazil
ConclusionHigher consumption of ultra-processed food was associated with snacking behavior, and the strength of this association was stronger among adolescents. Efforts to mitigate ultra-processed food attributes that facilitate snacking should be incorporated into strategies to promote healthier food choices, especially among adolescents. A high fat diet potentiates neonatal iron overload-induced memory impairments in rats
ConclusionThe combination of iron overload with exposure to a high fat diet only led to synergistic deleterious effect on emotional memory, while the effects induced by iron and by the high fat diet on AKT phosphorylation were comparable. These findings indicate that there is, at least to some extent, an additive effect of iron combined with the diet. Further studies investigating the mechanisms associated to deleterious effects on cognition and susceptibility for the development of age-associated neurodegenerative disorders are warranted. Nordic Nutrition Recommendations and risk of myocardial infarction and stroke: a prospective cohort study
ConclusionAdherence to the NNR was associated with a reduced risk of MI. This association was more pronounced among women than among men and in more recent NNR-editions. The findings for stroke need further investigation. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Salivary iodine concentration in pregnant women and its association with iodine status and thyroid function
ConclusionSIC is associated with urinary iodine concentration and thyroid function in pregnant women. SIC  <  176 μg/L was associated with an increased risk for iodine deficiency and hypothyroxinemia, while SIC >  529 μg/L was related to excess and thyrotoxicosis. SIC can be used as a reference indicator for evaluating the iodine nutrition status of pregnant women, but it needs further investigation and verification.Trial registrationNCT04492657(Aug 9, 2022). Iterative assessment of a sports rehydration beverage containing a novel amino acid formula on water uptake kinetics
ConclusionThe addition of small amounts of AA (3.48  g/L) to a sugar-free beverage increased fluid delivery to the circulation compared to a carbohydrate-based beverage, but greater amounts (17.51 g/L) delayed delivery. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Sex-specific impact of dietary patterns on liver cancer incidence: updated results from two population-based cohort studies in China
ConclusionA vegetable-based dietary pattern in males and a fruit-based dietary pattern in females tended to have a protective role on liver cancer risk. This study provided updated information that might be applied to guide public health action for the primary prevention of liver cancer. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Association between green tea intake and digestive system cancer risk in European and East Asian populations: a Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionOur study provides evidence that genetically predicted green tea intake is not causally associated with the development of DSCs in the European and East Asian population. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Impact of vegetarianism on cognition and neuropsychological status among urban community-dwelling adults in Telangana, South India: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionVegetarianism exerted a positive influence on the cognitive and neuropsychological status of the investigated population. Nevertheless, additional research is required to comprehend the underlying mechanisms that elucidate the long-term effects of vegetarianism and plant-based nutritional interventions on brain health.
