Association of plant-based diets with total and cause-specific mortality across socioeconomic deprivation level: a large prospective cohort
ConclusionsThis study showed that having a high overall PDI and hPDI were related to a reduced risk of death, while the uPDI was linked to a higher risk of death. Sticking to a healthy plant-based diet may help decrease mortality risks across socioeconomic deprivation levels, especially for those who are the most socioeconomically deprived. Effects of a single phosphate-enriched test meal on inflammasome activity and postprandial inflammatory markers in healthy subjects
ConclusionPostprandial inflammatory markers were not affected by dietary phosphate. However, IL-6 plasma levels were markedly increased post-meal, which appears to be a metabolic rather than a pro-inflammatory phenomenon.Trial registration numberClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03771924, date of registration: 11th December 2018, retrospectively registered. Associations of dietary choline and betaine with all-cause mortality: a prospective study in a large Swedish cohort
ConclusionOverall, our results do not support that intake of total choline is associated with all-cause mortality. However, some associations were modified by age and with higher folate intake dependent on sex. Higher intake of betaine was associated with lower risk of all-cause mortality in women. The association between circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D and pancreatic cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
ConclusionEvidence from this meta-analysis suggested that high circulating 25(OH)D levels may be associated with decreased mortality but not incidence of pancreatic cancer. Our findings may provide some clues for the treatment of pancreatic cancer and remind us to be cautious about widespread vitamin D supplementation for the prevention of pancreatic cancer. Effects of a prebiotic formulation on the composition of the faecal microbiota of people with functional constipation
ConclusionIn adults with functional constipation, the intake of a prebiotic formulation was associated with a decline of species richness and Shannon diversity.
