Association of food insecurity with successful aging among older Indians: study based on LASI
ConclusionsFI was inversely associated with SA among older Indians. These findings need to be validated by future studies which should also explore potential underlying mechanisms, and whether interventions decreasing FI might increase SA. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Differential association between dairy intake patterns and incident prostate cancer: a potential dairy matrix effect
ConclusionsA differential association of dairy intake patterns with risk of PC, and the poorly differentiated PC, was identified. This association seems to be determined by different dairy matrices and it is mediated by calcium content. Longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings and be able to identify other potential mediators in the etiology of PC. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Association between vitamin D status, physical performance, sex, and lifestyle factors: a cross-sectional study of community-dwelling Kosovar adults aged 40  years and older
ConclusionVitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among community-dwelling adults in Kosovo and low serum 25(OH)D has been associated with low muscle strength. This implies an urgent need for the development of comprehensive prevention strategies, focusing on pharmacological (supplementation) but also  on non-pharmacological strategies such as education, food fortification or lifestyle advices. Association of plant-based diets with total and cause-specific mortality across socioeconomic deprivation level: a large prospective cohort
ConclusionsThis study showed that having a high overall PDI and hPDI were related to a reduced risk of death, while the uPDI was linked to a higher risk of death. Sticking to a healthy plant-based diet may help decrease mortality risks across socioeconomic deprivation levels, especially for those who are the most socioeconomically deprived. Effect of high in comparison to low dairy intake intervention on markers of bone and cartilage remodeling and phosphate metabolism in healthy adults with overweight
ConclusionsHDI, as compared to LDI, reduced markers that are indicative for joint and bone resorption and bone turnover. No changes in P metabolism were observed.Clinical trial registryThis trial was registered athttps://trialsearch.who.int/Trial2.aspx?TrialID=NTR4899 as NTR4899. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Effects of a single phosphate-enriched test meal on inflammasome activity and postprandial inflammatory markers in healthy subjects
ConclusionPostprandial inflammatory markers were not affected by dietary phosphate. However, IL-6 plasma levels were markedly increased post-meal, which appears to be a metabolic rather than a pro-inflammatory phenomenon.Trial registration numberClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03771924, date of registration: 11th December 2018, retrospectively registered. Associations of dietary choline and betaine with all-cause mortality: a prospective study in a large Swedish cohort
ConclusionOverall, our results do not support that intake of total choline is associated with all-cause mortality. However, some associations were modified by age and with higher folate intake dependent on sex. Higher intake of betaine was associated with lower risk of all-cause mortality in women. The association between circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D and pancreatic cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
ConclusionEvidence from this meta-analysis suggested that high circulating 25(OH)D levels may be associated with decreased mortality but not incidence of pancreatic cancer. Our findings may provide some clues for the treatment of pancreatic cancer and remind us to be cautious about widespread vitamin D supplementation for the prevention of pancreatic cancer. Effects of a prebiotic formulation on the composition of the faecal microbiota of people with functional constipation
ConclusionIn adults with functional constipation, the intake of a prebiotic formulation was associated with a decline of species richness and Shannon diversity. Further research regarding the associations between prebiotics and the composition and function of the gut microbiota is warranted. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)
