Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 14:e202400013. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe synthesis of mixed ligand di-n-butyltin complexes, [(n-Bu2SnL1-3)2SO4], 2-4 (HL1-3 = 2-quinoline/ 1-isoquinoline/ 4-methoxy-2-quinoline carboxylic acid) has been realized by reacting n-Bu2Sn(OMe)OSO2Me, 1a with the corresponding quinaldic acid under solvothermal conditions. The observed transformation of methane sulfonate to sulfate anion represents a rare example of C-S bond cleavage on the organotin scaffolds, n-Bu2Sn(L1-3)OSO2Me, which have been identified as en route intermediates by NMR and X-ray crystallography. Analo...

Current Development of Lanthanide Complexes for Biomedical Applications
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 13:e202400038. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400038. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLuminescent molecule-based bioimaging system is widely used for precise localization and distinction of cancer/tumor cells. Luminescent lanthanide (Ln(III)) complexes offer long-lived (sub-millisecond time scale) and sharp (FWHM <10nm) emission, arising from the forbidden 4f-4f electronic transitions. Luminescent Ln(III) complex-based bioimaging has emerged as a promising option for both in vitro and in vivo visualizations. In this mini-review, the historical development and recent significant progress of luminescent Ln(III)...

Cu/MgO Reverse Water Gas Shift Catalyst with Unique CO2 Adsorption Behaviors
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 8:e202300955. doi: 10.1002/asia.202300955. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTActivation of inert CO2 molecules for the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction is tackled by incorporating magnesium oxide as a support material for copper, forming a Cu/MgO supported catalyst. The RWGS performance is greatly improved when compared with pure Cu or carbon supported Cu (Cu/C). Operating under a weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 300,000 mL·g-1·h-1, the Cu/MgO catalyst demonstrates high activity, maintaining over 70% equilibrium conversion and nearly 100% CO selectivity in a temperature range of 300-600 °...

Multiple Force-Triggered Downconverted and Upconverted Emission in Polymers Containing Diels-Alder Adducts
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 9:e202301147. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301147. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFluorescent mechanophores can indicate the deformation or damage in polymers. The development of mechanophores with multi-triggered response is of great interest. Herein, Diels-Alder (DA) adducts are incorporated into linear poly(methyl acrylate) PMA-BA and network poly(hexyl methacrylate) (PHMA) as mechanophores to detect the stress caused by ultrasound, freezing, and compression. The DA mechanophores undergo retro-DA reaction to release 9-styrylanthracene chromophore upon applying force, resulting in cyan fluorescence. The dis...

The dopamine D2 receptors antagonist Veralipride inhibits carbonic anhydrases: solution and crystallographic insights on human isoforms
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 9:e202400067. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400067. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe inhibitory effects of veralipride, a benzamide-class antipsychotic acting as dopamine D2 receptors antagonist incorporates a primary sulfonamide moiety and was investigated for its interactions with carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoforms. In vitro profiling using the stopped-flow technique revealed that veralipride exhibited potent inhibitory activity across all tested hCA isoforms, with exception of hCA III. Comparative analysis with standard inhibitors, acetazolamide (AAZ), and sulpiride, provided insights for understanding the ...

Revisiting Dimorphs of 4-n-octyloxybenzoic Acid: Contrasting Mechanical Property and Surface Wettability
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 7:e202301090. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301090. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT4-n-octyloxy benzoic acid is known to exhibit liquid crystalline properties, and under normal pressure and temperature conditions, it exists as at least two crystalline polymorphs. We revisited the system and discovered that single crystals of one of the polymorphs display plastic deformation, whereas the other is brittle. n-octyl chains are arranged in an end-to-end fashion, forming slip planes in the plastically deformable polymorph, whereas they are interdigitated in the crystal structure of the brittle polymorph. Due to the ...

Defect Engineering in GO Membranes - Tailoring Size and Oxidation Degree of Nanosheet for Enhanced Pore Channels
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 8:e202301065. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301065. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGraphene Oxide (GO) membrane has been extensively applied in the field of water purification and membrane separation processes. While the solute molecule transport in GO membranes encompasses interlayer channels, edge defects, and in-plane crack-like holes, the significance of edge defects or crack-like pores in ultrathin membranes is often overlooked. In our study, we focused on the construction of short-range channel GO membranes with varied defect structures by modulating the transverse size of the porous nanosheets. GO nanos...

Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 6:e202301113. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301113. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA new compound, InBaZn3GaO7, with swedenborgite structure along with transition metal (TM) substituted variants has been prepared. The structure contains layers of tetrahedral ions (Zn2+/Ga3+) connected by octahedrally coordinated In3+ ion forming the three-dimensional structure with voids where the Ba2+ ions occupy. The TM substituted compounds form with new colors. The origin of the color was understood based on the ligand-field transitions and metal to metal charge transfer (MMCT) transitions . The near IR reflectivity studie...

Interparticle Hydrogen Spillover in Enhanced Catalytic Reactions
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 6:e202301083. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301083. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInterparticle hydrogen spillover is the phenomenon of H migration over different catalyst particles, which should be a physical mixture of at least two solid catalysts. In this review, we analyze examples of enhanced catalysis based on interparticle (reverse) hydrogen spillover. Simple physical mixtures of powdered catalysts containing metal catalysts of H2 dissociation/recombination and solid catalysts with active sites for substrate activation significantly enhance catalytic reactions. These reactions include aromatic hydrogen...
