Role of Halobenzene Guest Molecules in Modulating Room Temperature Phosphorescence of Benzophenone-Naphthalene Diimide Inclusion Crystals
In this study, we successfully created inclusion crystals by introducing halobenzenes as guests into a host molecule combining benzophenone with naphthalene diimide. This approach led to the creation of fascinating fluorescence and RTP properties dependent on the guest molecules. Notably, crystals containing chlorobenzene showed cyan fluorescence, while those with iodobenzene displayed red RTP. This difference highlights the impact of the guest molecule on the luminescent properties, with the significant external heavy-atom effect of iodobenzene playing a key role in promoting efficient intersystem crossing between the exc...

Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 1:e202301116. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301116. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn unprecedented meglumine-based three-component deep eutectic solvent (3c-DES) (MegPAc) was synthesized using meglumine, p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA), and acetic acid as renewable, and non-toxic solvent. The exploitation of the MegPAc as an eco-friendly reaction media to construct a selective and sensitive small organic molecular sensing probe, namely, pyrazolo[5,1-b]quinazoline-3-carboxylates (PQCs) was executed. Captivatingly, the MegPAc served the dual role as solvent and catalyst, and it delivered the title components with...

Chem Asian J. 2024 Jan 31:e202301120. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301120. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlcohol is an influential drug that has extensive societal impact. In Aotearoa New Zealand, there are a number of worrying trends related to alcohol consumption including rates of alcohol-related harm and violence and heavy episodic drinking. To understand and address these issues, alcohol consumption rates and related trends need to be understood. A wastewater-based epidemiology study was carried out over the course of six months (April - September 2021), sampling one week per month from ten catchment areas covering ~40% of th...

Construction of Synergistic Co/CoO Interface to Enhance Hydrogenation Activity of Ethyl Lactate to 1,2-Propanediol
Chem Asian J. 2024 Jan 30:e202301103. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301103. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDevelopment of effective and stable non-precious catalysts for hydrogenation of ester to diols remains a challenge. Herein, the catalytic hydrogenation of ethyl lactate (EL) to 1,2-propanediol (1,2-PDO) with supported Co catalysts derived from layered double hydroxides (LDHs) is investigated. Catalytic tests reveal that LDH-derived Co catalysts exhibit the best catalytic performance with 98% of EL conversion and >99% of 1,2-PDO selectivity at mild conditions, compared with other Co catalysts (supported on Al2O3, and TiO2) an...

NIR-Mediated Cu < sub > 2 < /sub > O/Au Nanomotors for Synergistically Treating Hepatoma Carcinoma Cells
We presented a NIR-driven Janus Cu2 O/Au nanomotor. The nanomotor has a truncated octahedral structure. By asymmetric Au evaporation, the light response range of Cu2 O nanomotor is extended to near-infrared range, and the speed of Cu2 O/Au nanomotors under NIR is significantly increased. In promoting apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, except the nanotoxicity of Cu2 O itself, the Au layer enhances the photothermal properties, allowing Cu2 O/Au nanomotors to induce apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cells by heating them. On the other hand, a Schottky barrier formed at the interface of Cu2 O and Au, preventing the rec...

Crystal Engineering and Self-Assembled Nanoring Formation with Purine-Cd < sup > II < /sup > /Hg < sup > II < /sup > Supramolecular Frameworks
We report three complexes of CdII and HgII with two purine rare tautomers, N9-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-N6 -methoxyadenine, L1 and N7-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-N6 -methoxyadenine, L2, highlighting diverse crystallographic signatures exhibited by them. Influence of substituents, binding sites, steric effects and metal salts on the different modes of binding enabled an insight into metal-nucleobase interactions. L1 interacted with two and three equivalents of Cd(NO3 )2 .4H2 O and HgCl2 , respectively, while L2 interacted with two equivalents of HgCl2 , altogether leading to three different complexes (1 [C48 H48 Cd6 N34 O50 ], 2 [C12 H...

Effect of terminal substituent of iso-indigo-based materials on the intermolecular stacking and memory performance
Chem Asian J. 2024 Jan 28:e202301000. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301000. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAttributed to the characteristics of narrow band gap structural units and full spectral response, iso-indigo is often used as an electron acceptor in organic electronic materials. Organic molecules with large conjugated surfaces and strong intermolecular forces can form ordered stacked structures through self-assembly. In this paper, the self-assembly performances of IDCF3 and IDCN are regulated by changing the end groups. The effects of terminal groups on the resistive memory behaviours and reproducibility are investigated. Th...

Chem Asian J. 2024 Jan 26:e202301100. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301100. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDoping conventional materials with a second element is an exciting strategy for enhancing catalytic performance via electronic structure modifications. Herein, Mn-doped CdS thin films were successfully synthesized with the aid of the chemical bath deposition (CBD) by varying the pH value (8, 10, and 12) and the surfactant amount (20, 40, 60 mg). Different morphologies like nano-cubes, nanoflakes, nano-worms, and nanosheets were obtained under different deposition conditions. The optimized Mn-doped CdS synthesized at pH=8 exhibi...

Recent Advances in Hydrogenation of CO < sub > 2 < /sub > to CO with Heterogeneous Catalysts Through the RWGS Reaction
Chem Asian J. 2024 Jan 26:e202300971. doi: 10.1002/asia.202300971. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith the continuous increase in CO2 emissions, primarily from the combustion of coal and oil, the ecosystem faces a significant threat. Therefore, as an effective method to minimize the issue, the Reverse Water Gas Shift (RWGS) reaction which converts CO2 towards CO attracts much attention, is an environmentally-friendly method to mitigate climate change and lessen dependence on fossil fuels. Nevertheless, the inherent thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertness of CO2 is a big challenge under mild conditions. In addition, it...

The Role of Aromatic Alcohol Additives on Asymmetric Organocatalysis Reactions: Insights from Theory
Chem Asian J. 2024 Jan 25:e202300997. doi: 10.1002/asia.202300997. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe presence of an aromatic additive has been seen to enhance, often significantly, the enantioselectivity and yield in asymmetric organocatalysis. Considering their success across a dizzying range of organocatalysts and organic transformations, it would seem unlikely that a common principle exists for their functioning. However, the current investigations with DFT suggest a general principle: the phenolic additive sandwiches itself, through hydrogen bonding and π···π stacking, between the organocatalyst coordinated electr...
