An Isolable THF-coordinated Dialkylgermanone
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 21:e202400111. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400111. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA stable dialkylgermanone was generated by mixing a solid of the corresponding dialkylgermylene and gaseous N2O. While the dialkylgermanone is marginally persistent in solution and gradually converts to its head-to-tail dimer at room temperature, the addition of THF to the dialkylgermanone provided an isolable THF-coordinated dialkylgermanone. The THF-coordinated dialkylgermanone reacts with H2O, THF, and B(C6F5)3 similar to the corresponding base-free two-coordinate dialkylsilanone. The dialkylgermanone undergoes deoxygenation...

Alkoxylated Fluoranthene-Fused [3.3.3]Propellanes: Facile Film Formation against High π-Core Content
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 21:e202400080. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400080. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSolid-state assembling modes are as crucial as the chemical structures of single molecules for real applications. In this work, solid-state structures and phase-transition temperatures are investigated for a series of fluoranthene-fused [3.3.3]propellanes consisting of a rigid three-dimensional (3D) π-core and varying lengths of alkoxy groups. Compounds in this series with n-butoxy or longer alkoxy groups take an amorphous state at room temperature. In these molecules, rotatable biaryl-type bonds are not incorporated and high ...

Solid-State Emissive Pillar[6]arene Derivatives Having Alternate Methylene and Nitrogen Bridges
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 21:e202400106. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400106. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMacrocyclic arenes show conformational adaptability, which allows host-guest complexations with the size-matched guest molecules. However, their emission properties are often poor in the solid states due to the self-absorption. Herein, we newly synthesized pillar[6]arene derivatives having alternate methylene and nitrogen bridging structures. Solvatochromic study reveals that the nitrogen-embedding into the cyclic structures can strengthen the intramolecular charge transfer (CT) nature compared to that of the linear nitrogen-br...

Advancements in Olive-derived Carbon: Preparation Methods and Sustainable Applications
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 20:e202400045. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400045. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the realm of material science, carbon materials, especially olive-derived carbon (ODC), have become vital due to their sustainability and diverse properties. This review examines the sustainable extraction and use of ODC, a carbohydrate-rich by-product of olive biomass. We focus on innovative preparation techniques like pyrolysis, crucial for enhancing ODC's microstructure and surface properties. Variables such as activating agents, impregnation ratios, and pyrolysis conditions significantly influence these properties. ODC's...

Ce-doped TiO2 fabricated glassy carbon electrode for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction in acidic medium
In this study, we present a novel Ce-doped TiO2 catalyst synthesized through the sol-gel method, showcasing its potential as a superior electrocatalyst for HER in an acidic medium. Comprehensive characterization through X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and Raman spectroscopy confirms the successful formation of the catalyst. Electrocatalytic performance evaluation, including open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and Tafel analysis, demonstrates that GCE-5wt.%CeTiO2 outperforms bare GCE, as well as Ce and TiO2-based electrod...

Design, Synthesis, and Characterization of Novel Styryl Dyes as Fluorescent Probes for Tau Aggregate Detection in Vitro and in Cells
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 20:e202301081. doi: 10.1002/asia.202301081. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA series of novel styryl dye derivatives incorporating indolium and quinolinium core structures were successfully synthesized to explore their interacting and binding capabilities with tau aggregates in vitro and in cells. The synthesized dyes exhibited enhanced fluorescence emission in viscous environments due to the rotatable bond confinement in the core structure. Dye 4, containing a quinolinium moeity and featuring two cationic sites, demonstrated a 28-fold increase in fluorescence emission upon binding to tau aggregates. T...

Template Assisted One-Pot Synthesis of [2], Linear [3], and Radial [4]Catenane via Click Reaction
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 19:e202400031. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDesign and synthesis of higher order catenane are unexpectedly complex and involve precise cooperation among the precursors overcoming competing and opposing interactions. We achieved synthesis of [2], linear [3], radial [4] in a one-pot reaction by consecutive ring closing through click reactions. This synthesis gave three isolable products due to two, four, and six-click reactions between suitable coupling partners. Yields of the isolate templated-catenane decrease from lower to higher-ordered catenane (40%, 12%, and 4%), pro...

Carbon-Sulfur Bond Cleavage in Methanesulfonate on Diorganotin Quinaldate Platform - Synthesis and Characterization of [(n-Bu2SnL)2SO4]
Chem Asian J. 2024 Feb 14:e202400013. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe synthesis of mixed ligand di-n-butyltin complexes, [(n-Bu2SnL1-3)2SO4], 2-4 (HL1-3 = 2-quinoline/ 1-isoquinoline/ 4-methoxy-2-quinoline carboxylic acid) has been realized by reacting n-Bu2Sn(OMe)OSO2Me, 1a with the corresponding quinaldic acid under solvothermal conditions. The observed transformation of methane sulfonate to sulfate anion represents a rare example of C-S bond cleavage on the organotin scaffolds, n-Bu2Sn(L1-3)OSO2Me, which have been identified as en route intermediates by NMR and X-ray crystallography.
