Xanthomonas chitinilytica sp. nov., a novel chitinolytic bacterium isolated from a microbial fermentation bed material
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Jan 8;117(1):17. doi: 10.1007/s10482-023-01904-2.ABSTRACTA Gram-stain-negative bacterium, H13-6T, was isolated from a microbial fermentation bed material collected from a pig farm located in Yan'an, Shaanxi, China. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain H13-6T was affiliated with the genus Xanthomonas and showed highest similarity to strain Xanthomonas maliensis M97T (98.38%), Xanthomonas prunicola CFBP 8353T (98.26%) and Xanthomonas oryzae ATCC 35933T (98.11%). The pairwise ortho Average Nucleotide Identity values and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values...

Description and genomic characterization of Cohnella caldifontis sp. nov., isolated from hot springs in Yunnan province, south-west China
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Jan 8;117(1):20. doi: 10.1007/s10482-023-01908-y.ABSTRACTA bacterial strain, Gram staining positive, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, motile bacterium with flagellum and endospore-forming, designated strain YIM B05605T, was isolated from soil sampled in Hamazui hot springs, Tengchong City, Yunnan province, China. Optimum growth for the strain occurred at pH 7.0 and 45 °C. MK-7 was the main menaquinone in the strain YIM B05605T. The diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. Diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylethanolamine...

Nocardioides jiangxiensis sp. nov., a novel actinobacterium isolated from lakeside soil, exhibiting the biosynthesis potential of mycofactocin
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Jan 8;117(1):18. doi: 10.1007/s10482-023-01910-4.ABSTRACTA Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming and non-motile bacterium, designated WY-20T, was isolated from a lakeside soil sample collected in Jiangxi Province, PR China. Growth was observed at 20-42 °C (optimum 30 °C), pH 5.0-8.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and salinity of 0-3.0% (w/v; optimum 0.5%). Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain WY-20T belongs to the genus Nocardioides and showed the highest sequence similarity (98.1%) to N. phosphati WYH11-7T, followed by N. cavernaquae K1W22B-1T (97....

Jatrophihabitans cynanchi sp. nov., isolated from rhizosphere soil of Cynanchum wilfordii
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Jan 8;117(1):19. doi: 10.1007/s10482-023-01902-4.ABSTRACTA novel actinobacterial strain, SB3-54T was isolated from rhizosphere soil of Cynanchum wilfodill, Jaecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, Republic of Korea. Cells of strain SB3-54T were Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, and flagellated which formed pale yellow colonies on Reasoner's 2A (R2A) agar. Growth occurred at 15-30 °C (optimum 25 °C), pH 5-8 (optimum pH 7), and 0-2.5% NaCl (optimum 0%). Phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses showed that strain SB3-54T formed a separate lineage in the genus Jatrophihabitans with Jatrophihabitans te...

Bacterial community composition in the Northern Gulf of Mexico intertidal sediment bioturbated by the ghost shrimp Lepidophthalmus louisianensis
This study investigates the bacterial community composition in sediment associated with the ghost shrimp Lepidophthalmus louisianensis at two locations in the Northern Gulf of Mexico (Bay St. Louis, MS, and Choctawhatchee Bay, FL). Bacteria were analysed for shrimp burrows and for three different depths of bioturbated intertidal sediment, using second-generation sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Burrow walls held a unique bacterial community, which was significantly different from those in the surrounding sediment communities. Communities in burrow walls and surrounding sediment communities also differed between the two geo...
