Genomic potential for inorganic carbon sequestration and xenobiotic degradation in marine bacterium Youngimonas vesicularis CC-AMW-E < sup > T < /sup > affiliated to family Paracoccaceae
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2023 Sep 23. doi: 10.1007/s10482-023-01881-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEcological studies on marine microbial communities largely focus on fundamental biogeochemical processes or the most abundant constituents, while minor biological fractions are frequently neglected. Youngimonas vesicularis CC-AMW-ET, isolated from coastal surface seawater in Taiwan, is an under-represented marine Paracoccaceae (earlier Rhodobacteraceae) member. The CC-AMW-ET genome was sequenced to gain deeper insights into its role in marine carbon and sulfur cycles. The draft genome (3.7 Mb) contained 63.6% GC, 3773 codin...

Identification and characterisation of a major outer membrane protein from Methylacidiphilum fumariolicum SolV
In this study, we identified and characterised a major outer membrane protein (WP_009059494) from Methylacidiphilum fumariolicum SolV. PRED-TMBB and AlphaFold2 predicted this protein to form a porin with a β-barrel structure consisting of ten antiparallel β-sheets and with a small amphipathic N-terminal α-helix in the periplasm. We purified soluble recombinant protein WP_009059494 from E. coli using Tris-HCl buffer with SDS. Antibodies were raised against two peptides in the two large extracellular loops of protein WP_009059494 and immunogold localisation showed this protein to be mainly present in the OM of strain SolV...

Stieleria tagensis sp. nov., a novel member of the phylum Planctomycetota isolated from Tagus River in Portugal
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1007/s10482-023-01877-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA bacterial strain was isolated from a brackish water sample of Tagus river, Alcochete, Portugal and was designated TO1_6T. It forms light pink colonies on M13 medium supplemented with N-acetylglucosamine. Cells are pear-shaped to spherical, form rosettes and divide by budding. Strain TO1_6T presents a mesophilic and neutrophilic profile, with optimum growth at 20 to 25 °C and pH 7.0 to 7.5, and vitamin supplementation is not required to promote its growth. The genome of the novel isolate is 7.77 Mbp in size and has a DNA ...
