Characterization of balsam sulfide via pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/sulfur chemiluminescence detection and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry
In this study, balsam sulfide was characterized using pyrolysis-gas chromatography (Py-GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) and Py-GC with sulfur chemiluminescence detection (SCD) as well as matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight MS (MALDI-TOFMS). Py-GC-MS/SCD analyses of balsam sulfide and its model samples revealed that the low molecular weight reaction products were mainly composed of compounds of one α-pinene unit reacted with 1-3 sulfur atoms. In the analysis of the high molecular weight components by MALDI-TOFMS, the products of two or three α-pinene units crosslinked by sulfur atoms were observed. It was...

Preparation of gold nanoparticles using low-temperature heating of the dry residue of a droplet of an HAuCl < sub > 4 < /sub > solution in air
Anal Sci. 2023 Oct 13. doi: 10.1007/s44211-023-00438-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the present study, by heating a quartz glass substrate having the dry residue of a 10 μL droplet of a solution of HAuCl4 and a counter substrate facing to the dry residue from room temperature to one hundred and several tens of degrees Celsius in 20 min in air, highly dense gold nanoparticles were produced on the counter substrate. A gold nanoparticle substrate produced by this simple method was utilized as a substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering analysis.PMID:37831313 | DOI:10.1007/s44211-023-00438-x (Source: Analytical Sci...

Identification of novel metabolites of abiraterone in human serum and their metabolic pathways
Anal Sci. 2023 Oct 13. doi: 10.1007/s44211-023-00431-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo novel abiraterone (Abi, 3β-OH-Abi) metabolites in human serum were identified as 3α-OH-Abi and Δ5-Abi (D5A). Both metabolites were confirmed by their retention times on LC/MS and their product-ion mass spectra on LC-MS/MS compared to those of authentic compounds, which were chemically synthesized. The plausible metabolic pathways of these two metabolites are as follows: Abi is first oxidized to D5A by 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD) and then irreversibly converted to Δ4-Abi (D4A) by ∆5-∆4 isomerase. Presumably, D5A ...
