Detection of estradiol with a digital immunoassay using an anti-immunocomplex antibody and single-molecule observation of gold nanoparticles
In this study, with the aim of small molecule detection, we developed a digital immunoassay method using an anti-immunocomplex antibody that specifically recognizes immunocomplexes of small molecules with antibodies. The number of AuNPs modified with anti-immunocomplex antibody bound to immunocomplex of estradiol and anti-estradiol antibody was counted at a single nanoparticle level using DFM. We demonstrated for the first time that estradiol molecule can be detected by digital immunoassay using DFM and an anti-immunocomplex antibody with a detection sensitivity of 1 pg/mL.PMID:38424409 | DOI:10.1007/s44211-024-00518-6 (Source: Anal Sci)

Assessment of the structural change of DNA by binding with a small molecule based on capillary sieving electrophoresis
In this study, capillary sieving electrophoresis (CSE) using polymer solutions was used to evaluate the structural changes in nucleic acids upon complexation with small molecules. As the model target and nucleic acids, L-tyrosinamide (Tyr-Am) and its aptamer, which is a type of DNA specifically binding to Tyr-Am, were selected. CSE was conducted using a capillary filled with background solution (BGS) containing hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) as a sieving matrix. When Tyr-Am or tyrosine was added to the BGS in CSE, the ratio of mobility differences of the Tyr-Am-aptamer complex increased compared to that of the free aptamer ...

Repercussion of inflammatory bowel disease on lung homeostasis: The role of photobiomodulation
Lasers Med Sci. 2024 Feb 20;39(1):70. doi: 10.1007/s10103-024-04022-1.ABSTRACTInflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic and multifactorial diseases characterized by dysfunction of the intestinal mucosa and impaired immune response. Data show an important relationship between intestine and respiratory tract. The treatments of IBD are limited. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is an effective anti-inflammatory therapy. Our objective was to evaluate the repercussion of IBD as well as its treatment with PBM on pulmonary homeostasis. Male Wistar rats were submitted to IBD induction by acetic acid and treated or not with PBM. Rats we...

Removal of arsenic(V) using pure zeolite (PZ) and activated dithizone zeolite (ADZ) from aqueous liquids: application to green analytical chemistry
This study highlights the potential of zeolites as outstanding adsorbents for removing arsenic(V) from aqueous solutions. The calculated maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of pure zeolite and activated dithizone zeolite was 18.2 and 21.1(mg/g), respectively, with R2 = 0.999. According to Freundlich's linear model, the experimental isothermal data indicated that activated dithizone zeolite has a higher value of kf constant and a lower value of the 1/n constant than that obtained for pure zeolite. These results imply favorable adsorption of arsenic(V) on activated dithizone zeolite.PMID:38379121 | DOI:10.1007/s44211-024-0050...

Descriptive Analysis of Surgical Outcomes and Stoma Formation for Treating Sacral and Anal Pressure Injuries in Spinal Cord Injury: A Retrospective Study of Selected Cases
CONCLUSION: While often viewed as a treatment of last resort, an intestinal stoma might serve as a valuable strategy, particularly for SCI patients with extensive PIs near the anal region, to promote the healing of such injuries. Tailored decision-making is essential to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.PMID:38379575 | PMC:PMC10878226 | DOI:10.1177/23779608241229507 (Source: Anal Sci)

Absorption-based colorimetric detection of nickel(II) ion by phase separation of thermoresponsive magnetic nanoparticles under microflow
In this study, we demonstrated the detection of nickel(II) ions by the magnetic separation of TMNP induced by their phase transition under microflow. The NTA-tagged TMNP solution mixed with a Ni2+ sample was introduced into a microchannel with a well structure. Moreover, the sample was heated to induce the thermally induced aggregation of TMNP. The Ni-capturing TMNP were trapped in the well by magnetic fields. The supernatant was removed from the outlet, and a dimethylglyoxime (DMG) solution was introduced into the device for colorimetric detection in the well. Because DMG has a higher stability constant with Ni2+, sensiti...
