Fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymer nanocomposite for solid-phase extraction and fluorimetric determination of hydrochlorothiazide
We report herein a fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymer (FMIP) for the solid-phase extraction (SPE) and fluorimetric determination of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) in water. The FMIP is based on fluorescent polystyrene nanoparticles embedded within a molecularly imprinted polyaniline (PANI) matrix. The operational adsorption parameters such as the initial HCTZ concentration, incubation time and the solution pH were found to influence the removal efficiency. At optimum conditions, a high adsorption capacity of the FMIP was found (2.08 mg g-1). Evidence of the adsorption process was confirmed by the change in the FMIP phys...

An effective method for the simultaneous extraction of 173 contaminants of emerging concern in freshwater invasive species and its application
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2023 Sep 30. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-04974-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA robust and efficient extraction method was developed to detect a broad range of pollutants of emerging interest in three freshwater invasive species: American red crab (Prokambarus clarkii), Asian clam (Corbicula fluminea), and pumpkinseed fish (Lepomis gibbosus). One native species, "petxinot" clam (Anodonta cygnea), was also evaluated. Invasive species are often more resistant to contamination and could be used in biomonitoring studies to assess the effect of contaminants of emerging concern on aquatic ecosystems while preser...

HTLV-1 Presenting as an Incidental Finding after a Cosmetic Procedure
Skinmed. 2023 Sep 29;21(4):285-287. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTA 44-year-old woman presented to a plastic surgeon for liposuction of the abdomen, back, and flanks, a gluteal fat transfer, and a vertical pattern breast lift and small reduction. The patient had a medical history of significantly well-controlled hypertension for 4 years treated with hydrochlorothiazide and amlodipine. She had been pregnant four times and delivered six children with two sets of twins. She was allergic to latex and denied a history of smoking. Her physical examination was unremarkable and her body mass index (BMI) was 26.1. No skin lesions were e...
