Pangenomic analysis of Coxiella burnetii unveils new traits in genome architecture
Coxiella burnetii is the etiological agent of Q fever, a worldwide zoonosis able to cause large outbreaks. The disease is polymorphic. Symptomatic primary infection is named acute Q fever and is associated with hepatitis, pneumonia, fever, and auto-immune complications while persistent focalized infections, mainly endocarditis, and vascular infections, occur in a minority of patients but are potentially lethal. In order to evaluate the genomic features, genetic diversity, evolution, as well as genetic determinants of antibiotic resistance, pathogenicity, and ability to cause outbreaks of Q fever, we performed a pangenomic ...

Formative Exploration of the Feasibility of Embedding Community Assets Into Primary Health Care: Barbershop and Place of Worship Readiness in Guyana
CONCLUSION: The participatory approach extended reach within underserved communities, while the readiness data informed intervention design and identified opportunities for partnership development. Contextual differences between community assets require comprehensive readiness investigations to develop suitably tailored interventions that promote reach, acceptance, and sustainability.PMID:36373680 | DOI:10.1177/21501319221135949 (Source: Primary Care)

Effect of comprehensive smoke-free legislation on the tourism industry in countries of the Caribbean Community
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide strong evidence that public policies banning smoking in public places do not affect hospitality and tourism businesses. Given the economic significance of this industry in the Caribbean, the local evidence provided by this study will help to effectively counteract interference by the tobacco industry and advance towards a smoke-free Caribbean.PMID:36211235 | PMC:PMC9534343 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2022.146 (Source: Pan American Journal of Public Health)

Collective outbreak of severe acute histoplasmosis in immunocompetent Chinese in South America: the clinical characteristics and continuous monitoring of serum cytokines/chemokines
CONCLUSIONS: The diagnosis of acute histoplasmosis needs a comprehensive analysis of epidemiological history, clinical symptoms and signs, and results of imaging, laboratory, microbiological and pathological examinations. Although none of the CRP, PCT, G-test, N/L, LDH, CysC, β2-MG, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IFN-γ shows specificity in the diagnosis of acute histoplasmosis, there is possibility that the above factors might help in the inflammation and prognosis estimation. However, more studies and further investigation are still required for the verification.PMID:35934702 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-022-01771-2 (Source: Primary Care)

Barriers to access to health services for women and children in Latin AmericaBarreiras de acesso aos servi ços de saúde para mulheres e crianças na América Latina
CONCLUSIONS: Women who reported barriers to access had a statistically significant lower probability of using essential health services for themselves and their children. Strategies aimed at removing barriers should focus not only on improving the range of services offered, but also address issues related to norms, gender roles, and women's empowerment if sustainable progress toward universal access is to be made.PMID:35875315 | PMC:PMC9299390 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2022.94 (Source: Pan American Journal of Public Health)
