Secondary Headshot Outfit Question
Hi all! I was wondering whether a photo of me in a nice sweater in front of a white brick wall would work okay for secondaries (not comfortable posting a photo of me in public). I'm a girl if that matters. The health program committee said that it would work fine, but I've seen a lot of people talking about wearing full suits/blazers and wondered if I needed to do the same... thanks! Wayne State vs West Virginia School of Medicine (PLEASE HELP! Must decide by May 31)
West Virginia SOM Pros beautiful location, seems like happy people and a peaceful town. I'm not really a city girl anyways large neuroscience institute, seems good for me as that is a big area of interest administration seems like they take really good care of everyone, especially in the transition. Great partnership with Ruby, I'd be in the same location all 4 years of school. Cons lack of diversity not ranked very high? Wayne State University SOM Pros... Am I fit to be in medicine?
I don’t know if this is a rant or ****post but I’m gloomy/miserable about my life recently. Is this girl problems or is this life and medicine? I’m finishing up first year, I’m 1-1.5 standard deviations above my class test scores but I’m burnt out and just moody. I just went to music festival with my college friends who all work in tech and it was such a good time reliving our college days for the weekend. It was nostalgia and so sad when we flew our aways back to reality *tear tear. They... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Med schools that allow LOA for PhD?
Applying MD-PhD in a non traditional field with strong stats. Thinking strategically about how to broaden school list by applying MD-only to schools that do not seem to support intended field for PhD in the MSTP but have strong departments in that field (typically smaller MSTP programs). Down the road taking a LOA for the PhD…. Totally suboptimal way to accomplish primary goal of MD/PhD but need to be realistic about tiny number of schools that support MSTP in a non-trad field. Any... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help! Need new procedure room jokes
Nurses are complaining about hearing the same material. Please help me out with some of your favorites. Some of my faves: - when performing any ultrasound procedure, knee, stellate, etc. saying, "Now I won't be able to tell you if its a boy or a girl..." - when patient says they are nervous saying, "don't worry, I just watched a YouTube video on how to do this." - when patient says they are afraid of needles say, "me too! I can't even stand to look at them, thats why I keep my eyes closed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Intrathecal without wet tap?
Had this happen to me on OB last night. This girl's been laboring all day, and I don't hear anything for an epidural, of course until right at midnight as I lay down my head for 20 minutes. I start flipping though her chart, and she's 21 and I do see things like meth at some point? OB's note only mentions marijuana though, and when I walk in the room she seems relatively normal, not whacked out. But she is screaming and hollering...her positioning is all horrible. She won't really sit still... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Class of 2021 NAPLEX Scores and Predictions
Well boys and girls, get ready because the 2021 NAPLEX scores will be coming soon this month (I hope) and that means that it’s time to test your Nostradamus skills. I will be honest that I haven’t had as much time to devote to this endeavor just due to giving vaccines until I see them in my sleep and life getting in the way but I had people tell me they enjoyed this thread last year along when I tell them in-person to prospective students. Keep in mind, these are just predictions and my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Case: pediatric airway foreign body
Hey folks, I thought I'd bring up an interesting case for people to talk about! Check this out: On a weekend call shift, a 9 month old girl comes to the OR for airway foreign body removal. Baby has had a month now of initially tugging at ears and URI sxs, progressed to coughing, treated as bronchiolitis and eventually concern for development of pneumonia which has been treated with abx for the last 2 weeks. Now presented from PCP's office to the ED with increased tachypnea / respiratory... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Got Out of Retail
Title says it all. There is hope, boys and girls. After working in the horrific conditions as a PIC of a severely understaffed store, I will now be able to sit and eat lunch. I will start my hospital pharmacy career soon, God-willing before I lose all passion for this profession. Salary, PTO, health insurance, hours - everything is an upgrade. These jobs are out there! Apply, apply, apply to these positions with all you have even if you don't have a residency (I don't). Part brag, part F... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
