Scapular Dyskinesia: How to Differentiate
Between Etiologies
Instr Course Lect. 2024;73:609-624.ABSTRACTIt is important to discuss the importance of synchronous balance between periscapular muscles for scapulothoracic motion and resultant scapulohumeral rhythm. Abnormalities in this balance can lead to scapular dyskinesia and winging, affecting shoulder motion and leading to impingement. Strategies exist to diagnose and differentiate between pathologies such as muscle paralysis (eg, trapezius or serratus anterior) or overactivity (eg, pectoralis minor). The physician should be aware of the role of diagnostic imaging, as well as the unique considerations for patients with Ehlers-Danl...

The Scapula: The Greater Masquerader of
Shoulder Pathologies
Instr Course Lect. 2024;73:587-607.ABSTRACTA comprehensive review of scapular pathologies and their effect on shoulder function is necessary to determine the best treatment options. The coordinated motion between the scapulothoracic and glenohumeral joints is essential for shoulder motion and depends on the balanced activity of the periscapular muscles. Disruption in these muscles can cause abnormal scapular motion and compensatory glenohumeral movements, leading to misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis. Scapular pathologies can arise from muscle overactivity or underactivity/paralysis, resulting in a range of scapulothoracic ...

Psychological interventions to improve pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and quality of life in children and adults with hypermobility spectrum disorders and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: a systematic review
AbstractHypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) affect individuals across physical, psychological and social domains, making assessment and management difficult. Management for this condition primarily focuses on addressing the musculoskeletal complaints using physiotherapy rather than the additional manifestations such as fatigue, anxiety and depression. This systematic review aims to identify psychological interventions and assess whether they improve the lived experiences of individuals with HSD. It also aims to assess which psychological interventions were most effective, which symptoms were most effectively managed by ...

Improvement in chronic pelvic pain, orthostatic intolerance and interstitial cystitis symptoms after treatment of pelvic vein insufficiency
CONCLUSION: Pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, and dysautonomia were frequently found with VO-CPP and improved after venous treatment. EDS/HSD and IBS were common in these women.PMID:38050791 | DOI:10.1177/02683555231219737 (Source: Phlebology)

Physician- and patient-reported dermatologic comorbidities of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
To the Editor: Despite hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) being the most common inherited connective tissue disorder, it remains the only Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) subtype without a known causative gene.1 It is hypothesized that altered dermal mechanics from suspected collagenopathy and aberrant mast cell activation predispose hEDS to cutaneous disease, and historically known cutaneous afflictions include mast cell activation disorder spectrum and chronic spontaneous urticaria, abnormal scars or wound healing, piezogenic papules, dyshidrosis, extensible or soft skin, easy bruising, local anesthesia resistance, ke...

Effects of multidisciplinary rehabilitation in a patient with Ehlers-Danlos and Beh çet's syndromes: a paradigmatic case report according to the narrative medicine
CONCLUSION: Narration is not just an interpretation of the illness experience, but the result of reshaping the interpretations of the story that both patient and health professional. This discipline provides enrichment of care, especially when combined with rehabilitation in chronic disease, by paying attention to and using even in the therapeutic phase the stories of patients, family and health care personnel, giving the opportunity to define a tailored effectiveness rehabilitation approach at the light of the different points of view of the subjects.PMID:37981839 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2283104 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Microvascular status and skin thickness in adults with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: a pilot investigation
CONCLUSIONS: Our study detected in hEDS patients a normal microvascular function at rest and a suitable capillary morphology butwith increased microvascular fragility. The dermal thickness seems thinner in hEDS patients than in controls in most skin areas, with strong statistically significance at the level of feet and thorax.PMID:37976114 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/nrs4mp (Source: Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology)
